Dear skbrose, I was so glad to see your post. I've attached a post I just made

to my DownSyndrome-Autism group where they are waxing poetic about this movie.

I'm with you.

<<OK am I the only one who found this movie a tad depressing? as well as

unlikely? I've obviously so lowered my expectations for that I've lost all

perspective. I honestly had no idea she might be able to be a chess genius or

pick up the guitar and play perfectly the first time (is that before or after

she licks it and throws it on the floor?) And wow! to think I could have had her

out running marathons with normal kids....I've really been holding her back. Did

anyone see a messy house? even one thing out of place in the 15 year span of

this movie? Mom never raises her voice? and is able to control 2,2,2, not one,

but 2 children in a meltdown all by herself and with no blood or bruising

involved? And did you notice how after 15 years of raising 2 autistic kids all

by herself she looks 10 years younger and even has a more voluptuous figure?

granted, a little help from Aiden Quinn could probably work miracles, but this

movie left me just a tad ticked off.

Of course it was only hours before that I learned my dad had been found

unconscious out in Ca. and now has Alzheimer's so I was not in a good space

admittedly. Sometimes tho, I just hate perpetuating that stereotype of every

autistic child having some special undiscovered genius...the savant thing. As

soon as people find out 's autistic they want to know what kind of special

tricks she can do. I have many friends with single dx autistic kids and their

lives are NOTHING like this movie.

OTOH who wants to see a movie about heartbreak and joy over teensy weensy

victories like learning to wipe your butt.

Sorry, must be the afteraffects of Hurricane charley which totally spared

us but creamed the west coast about 4 hr. away God bless west Florida.
