Penn State's new Reading Instruction for Special Education (RISE)

certificate program provides advanced training for special education

teachers in reading instruction for upper elementary and secondary

students with special learning needs. Special education administrators,

general education teachers and administrators, reading specialists,

speech and language pathologists, educational consultants, and higher

education faculty who are responsible for reading instruction may also

attend.

The program consists of a conference and three graduate-level courses,

offered via videotape or DVD. The Summer Reading Conference: Effective

Reading Instruction for Upper Elementary and Secondary Students with

Special Learning Needs will be held June 21 to 25, 2004, at The Penn

Stater Conference Center Hotel in State College, Pennsylvania.

Motivated individuals can complete the program in one academic year.

Qualified Pennsylvania residents can earn contact hours toward

fulfilling Act 48 requirements by completing courses in the RISE

certificate program.
