Guest guest
Tonya - that would be great because I have already gotten 3 large children's advocacy groups interested. I will contact you off -line about it. [Texas-Autism- Advocacy] Re: Winkleman cases and Public Schools I think like Mara said, parents need to become vocal with OSEP and register their complaints. It is also a good idea to contact Kathy Clayton at TEA and register complaints with her as well. I hear that these 2 agencies are saying they've never heard parent complaints, this needs to change. Along with parents contacting OSEP and TEA, maybe we need to form a coalition with agencies that have a stake in this matter, like the ARC of Texas, Advocacy Inc., and let them know what reforms are needed in order to improve outcomes for our children in public schools. Reforms like caps on attorney fee spending, taking away due process from TEA, extending the statue of limitation on being able to file to meet federal guidliines in IDEA (2 yrs rather than 1). Texas Autism Advocacy: www.TexasAutismAdvo cacy.org > " There are some aspects of a person's life that we have no right to compromise. We cannot negotiate the size of an institution. No one should live in one. We cannot debate who should get an inclusive education. Everyone should. We cannot determine who does and who does not get the right to make their own choices and forge their own futures. All must. " > >
