Guest guest
Many of us have family members with other diagnoses. I can't imagine someone sending nasty emails over your post. How sad that they can't take an open discussion, or don't have anything better to do! Guest guest
Thanks Mark for posting this, briefly read some of it but will continue to do some more reading on what you posted. Just yesterday I had a conversation with an ex-California certified home health attendant and the things she had shared how I wish Texas followed some of the nursing services instead of spending too much funds on other personnels who are not qualified. Instead of attendants, nurses are hired here. Do not get me wrong, some of the attendants are great whom I have met but when they come they are not qualified and of course receive low pay. Oh, we do get nursing services but it is only for them to come and do the assessments annually only. When I had mentioned about my son's health issues and how I had to quit work twice and boy did I love my jobs but of course my priority lead me where needed with my family and of course sacrifice lots. To know that the CA school district's in LA, would actually follow the care plan of the individual with unique and challenging needs as it revolved around anyone with all disabilities. She told me that if I had the nursing services for my son, instead of me having to leave work the nurse would of stepped in and been with him at the school or whatever needed. If the child needed some type of intervention, the nurse would have to attend to get educated and all of this was done at the school. Respite hours were once again a nurse would assist here at home and if mom wanted to work or go to school, the nursing care was there to assist and heaven forbid with example if a child experiences even ongoing seizures at school or at home, once again it is having a nurse and what worked out here when needed the nurse would have that nurse & doctor communication. Medicaid services here definitely also needs a major overhaul, just like Special Education. It is sad that our kids will not have that opportunity to mentioned something like because of so and so school or so so teacher was my inspiration due to the fact of school districts rather battle with the parents and fail the students, not realizing that the attorneys are using their " weasel words " to get rich while the good therapist, para-professionals and educators do not end up with a raise. Parents who seek avenues to fork out so much money to hire an outside attorney and the parents are not forewarn that only 1/5 to 20% will win the case. It is having to deal with the Special Education mafia when attorneys are the only ones getting rich, like about & $10,000 tax-payers money instead of spending like example a $500.laptop to accommodate around the student's educational rights. Yep, around $ 90 million a year which school district nationwide spend . When it comes down to the Medicaid/Medicaid Waiver services, it is cutting out the middle man especially when the funds are being cut. Expenses towards those that sit behind the desk & get paid to be told " will get right back " and are sometimes clueless should you even ask them something and once again " will get right back " and so many months passes and our child is still waiting on whatever services then told that funds have been cut, such a headache. Can you tell, definitely will read what you had to share, thanks. Time for some changes indeed. Y'all keep all the information coming and hopefully we could get things shaking here in Texas.
