Guest guest
My name is . I am married to & we live in Shelton, Wa. We have a 4 year old son who has Shaken baby Syndrome and Autism. We also have 5 older kids from 33 years old to 24 years old & 10 grands from 18 years old to 2 months old. Currently, my son is enrolled in his second year of preschool at the public school. I am very concerned not all his needs are being met and am exploring additional home based therapy for him. My son does not speak yet, but has a pretty good sense of communicating without words. He uses or rather knows a few signs and takes us to or brings objects to us. My son does not do any pointing yet..Is this of importance? My greatest concerns are social & communication skills. I am not sure where to start. I am hoping to get some ideas from here... I read one file on the VB intro notes. I found it very interesting, even though many of the terms I did not understand. One thing that sparked interest was reinforcers. My son has a habit of jumping in one particular chair we don't want him to . He came in & turned on tv & put on his favorite Barney tape. My husband saw him jumping in the chair & grabbed the remote & turned off his movie. Braxton looked at him & my husband said " Sit " ..As soon as he sat, my husband turned it back on...After that, I would hear him jumping & turn it off. He would look at me and sit. But, after awhile, I believe he was turning it into a game with me. I did not know how to handle that or react. Any ideas? How dod I get started? Thanks Mom2Braxton@... They saw a child who " may never speak " ..I see a gift that needs no words. They saw a child with " limited possibility " ..I see a child, my child who can soar past the heavens
