Guest guest
She has a problem though, her child repeats all the verbal answers twice. So if she's teaching a tact, the kid would say the answer twice though she prompts it only once. One way to stop this is by having some way of cutting off the repeated response before it begins. Techniques to do this include having an edible ready to pop into the child's mouth as a reinforcement the moment the first response is completed, or verbally giving enthusiastic praise right after the correct response and before it can be repeated. If you take this approach, it is done proactively. That is, before you even give the SD, you know that you are going to jump in with the reinforcement as soon as the correct response is given. It has to be instantaneous on your part to cut off the incorrect repetition. Another way to think of it is that you are reinforcing with a " zero second delay " , just as you prompt with a zero second delay when you are first teaching something. s (Cary, NC) persistentC@... I know a family who has just started teaching her child at the table with fast pace errorless teaching methods as introduced by Carbone's workshops. She has a problem though, her child repeats all the verbal answers twice. So if she's teaching a tact, the kid would say the answer twice though she prompts it only once. For example SD:What is this? ball R: ball, ball Did anyone of you have the same problem? My friend tries a lot of things but she seems to be out of ideas. Any thoughts on this matter will be helpful, Thanks. SADA SADA, Perhaps, you can change up the presentation a bit (Give the prompt first then the SD) to sound more like this: Prompt: Ball SD: What is this? Response: Ball Have you tried that yet?
