Guest guest
We don't do tubals(catholic and all) but where I used to work we did them, and there was no problem breastfeeding. Did they give her a drug that might be contraindicated for breastfeeding? Kathy H.

Guest guest
All our tubals nurse after surgery. There is a book called Drugs in pregnancy and lactation that we have on our unit. I don't remember the author, but I'll try to remember to write it down when I go to work tonight. Sylvia
Guest guest
First I've ever heard of ......not breast feeding after a tubal....did they use general anesthesia...even with that we've never restricted the breast feeding.

Does anyone else do this? Last night the baby was hard to bottle feed but was great breast feeding the night before. Luckily, the baby latched right back on this morning. What do you advise post-op? >> Our tubals are almost exclusively done with spinals or epidurals. If general anesthesia they do not use meds that would create a problem breastfeeding. Also there are so very few meds that would interfere, check with your LC's. As for feeding that baby, couldn't you have used a cup, dropper or habberman feeder to avoid using a bottle? When our babies need to have alternate feedings we are required to use cup, dropper, syringe, or whatever to avoid that artificial nipple! We have successfully cup fed newborns for weeks while Moms are too ill to breastfeed them. It works great and is quicker than bottle too! Guest guest
We don't do tubals until 3 months post partum any more, supposedly less risk of mums wanting reversal plus less risk of tubes reuniting. Off record a few years ago when we were doing them at 1 day post partum the obs. used to send a sample of the tubes to histology to check that they were the tubes....we had more than one come back as " Not Fallopian tube....????What is it " Love Diane PS Never any complaints from the mums!!!!
