Post Campus of Long Island University Brookville, New York Humanities Building/ Room 119 _ (http://www.cwpost.liu.edu/cwis/cwp/location/directions.html) (USE TILLES CENTER ENTRANCE and BEAR RIGHT. WHITE building on the LEFT near the middle of the lawn) Cost:Fee:$175 Elija Members/$200 Non-Members/$250 walk-in/late Description:This workshop is designed for those individuals who have already participated in an introductory verbal behavior workshop, or have a working knowledge of B. F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior. The first day will focus on a detailed analysis of several types of “language barriers†that may impede language acquisition. The analysis of the causes of these problems will be followed by intervention strategies designed to ameliorate them. For example, many children with autism, even high functioning children, have a defective mand repertoire, despite intensive mand training and the general agreement among trainers that the mand repertoire is fine. Several variations of this problem will be analyzed using Skinner’s analysis of verbal behavior, video presentations, and data based intervention strategies. The second day of the workshop will focus on language skills such as advanced manding, intraverbal and RFFC (listener skills), beginning sentences, and the use of reading as a teaching tool. A new sequence (curriculum) of these verbal skills will be presented. Additional topics discussed over the two day workshop will include staff training, behavior problems, vocal development, classroom design, IEPS, augmentative communication, inclusion, peer interaction, self stimulation, common teaching errors, and the power of Behavior Analysis as an ongoing conceptual tool to guide the intervention program. _To Register for Mark Sundberg Click here_ (http://www.elija.org/Sundberg.html)

My CARD rep (also an SLP) doesnt believe " talking " is a behavior....and im running into alot of resistence with support when it comes to ABA/DTT....theyre saying that since my son is so " difficult to transition " and also " socially-phobic " that such a " forceful " approach " probably " wouldnt be " best " for spencer. why cant i try it anyway????? i mean what harm could it do? they seem to think it would push him " further " into his " phobia " . Not sure if i concur. any feedback post to list or email direct is appreciated. kathleen mom to spencer3 ASD. no ABA/DTT prog established yet....but trying.
