Guest guest
I have a 6yo female patient who has had eczema since she was a baby. She was tested as an infant and allergens at that time removed from diet. Then, this past summer, she began getting hives from ears to toes and had an anaphylactic reaction to cheese. She was put on prednisone so that patch testing could be performed. " True Allergy " Patch testing revealed allergies to nickel sulfate, potassiumdichromate, cocamidopropylbetaine, Compositae family, dairy, egg, soy, corn, coconut, beef, dogs, potato and possibly others. I have worked with extensive food allergies with good success in the past, but what has me stumped on this one is the allergy to nickel sulfate and potassium dichromate. The family has been led to believe they have to avoid all foods and supplements that contain nickel and chromium. This includes things such as nuts, apples, grains, and much much more. This also limits supplements, especially mineral rich supplements. The family is specifically looking for nutritional supplements and personal care products that will be allergen free. I am concerned about her overall nutrition with this severe of limitations and would like to work boundaries/barriers to decrease this allergic response. I am wondering if anyone knows if Undas, Gemmos and Gammadyns can be used in this case - any concerns about nickel or chromium in their compounding? Also, any suggestions for general nutrients that will avoid these allergens? Suggestions for personal care products that do not contain cocamidopropylbetaine or coconut oil would also be helpful. Thanks in advance for your help. Amy Amy Chadwick, ND Palmer, AK
Guest guest
Hi Amy- I would find out what is going on in her gut. Allergies that go back to infancy indicate insufficient barrier formation and impaired adrenal phase maturation. How was mom's pregnancy? What happened during early infancy? Consider Ribes Nigrum, Ficus and Juglans, 3,14,50...to start, but she'll need long term constant support and drainage. I have a case very much like this except the patient presented at thirteen with similar issues since 6 mo. old. We've been through lots of remedies and combinations in two years...it's been slow but she keeps progressing and honestly, conventional medicine really has nothing to offer children with issues like this except supression.... that can lead to deeper issues like impaired endocrine system maturation among other things. Your patient and her parents will need to be reminded of the fact that addressing the cause will take time. I've found that my patient and her parents need frequent pep-talks about hanging in there with the process. Good Luck N.D. Guest guest
Hi Amy,I would also consider beginning desensitization using NAET or EFT or some other form of energetic treatment to remind the body of what is foreign or not. I use EFT for allergy desensitization and I find it works very effectively. Guest guest
Thank you. I have had quite a bit of experience and success treating allergies by treating the gut, using Undas, Probiotics, gemmos, homeopathy, etc. However, my question in this case is in regard to the metal allergies and how to be sure I am avoiding these metals in the products I choose? Any input on this?
