Fwding as is below:

Sorry guys, sending y'all all this information on diet & etc. topics,

this is my journey now that I know this is huge in my son's world

where it has impacted his life big times and going with the flow

sharing if anyone can relate.

One who is overwhelmed with the hidden culprit which triggers off so

much with some of my son's health issues.

You could say over my denial stage, not that I wanted to stray away

too much of it as I have seen some improvements health wise but

sometimes when you jump over one hurdle another challenge occurs so

moving forward once again empowering myself in this department.

RE:

This week on Autism Tree there have been a number of entries added

that talk about diet and the role it plays in helping or hindering

those on the spectrum.

I suppose it comes as no surprise that diet may play a role as we

have all felt the effects of too much sugar or rich food from time

to time.

This week there is an article on the GFCF diet and in the video

section there are two videos by s, a Certified

Nutrition Consultant, on what foods effect autism behaviors and

what symptoms can be improved with a change in diet.

Diet aside there are also many more entries that take a look at

recent autism research and offer practical tips.

Here's a quick summary of the most recent entries...

How Effective is a GFCF Diet for ASDs

---------------------------------------------------------

There has been a great deal of anecdotal evidence from parents

claiming that the GFCF (gluten-free, casein-free) diet can cause

dramatic improvements in the autistic behaviors of their children.

More recently, celebrities such as McCarthy have been

speaking out about their own autistic children's progress on the

GFCF diet. This has lead many parents...

Kids With Autism May Have Gene That Causes Muscle Weakness

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\

------------------

In a presentation at the 2008 annual meeting for the American

Academy of Neurology in Chicago, M. Shoffner, M.D., discussed

new research, which suggests a child with autism experiencing

muscle weakness may be an indicator of a fundamental genetic defect

resulting in a form of mitochondrial disease. Meaning that the

child's muscles aren't able...

Hyperbaric Therapy and Autism

----------------------------------------------------

Hyperbaric Therapy (HBOT) has become so popular that there are

currently over 7,000 different facilities worldwide where HBOT is

offered as a treatment to various diseases, disorders, and other

health concerns. Most commonly, it has been used to treat divers

who have the bends (a pressure-related condition from rising too

quickly in very deep waters)...

Autistic Mannerisms Reduced By Sensory Treatment

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\

Among treatments where parents are increasingly seeing improvements

in their children's symptoms is sensory integration treatment.

Supporting what parents have been seeing for themselves in their

autistic children is a new study released by researchers at Temple

University and presented at the April, 2008 American Occupational

Therapy Association conference.

This study found that children on...

How do I Find an Expert in My Area?

-----------------------------------------------------

Aside from the initial diagnosis, one of the first challenges faced

by parents of autistic children is that of trying to discover

autism experts who can best help their children with treatments and

the minimizing of symptoms as well as the slowing or halting of the

progression of the disorder. Knowing where to look to...

Neurofeedback May Help Retrain Brains In Children With Autism

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\

--

A University of Missouri study has used a video game called " Space

Race " to examine the brainwaves of children when they are focusing

and concentrating, in order to investigate whether " retraining " of

the brain in autistic children is possible. The video game

involves using a controller to move rockets across the screen with

G/F, C/F diet, nutrition, supplements, and neurofeedback have been

very helpful for my son. The diet eliminated a lot of health problems

and it helped him concentrate and learn better. Watching nutritional

content and eliminating artificial ingredients, corn syrup, and

preservatives has a very good effect on my son's behavior and

thinking.

Neurofeedback helped his porcessing time improve and it smoothed his

speech fluency (from choppy to about 95% normal cadence).

Are you planning on attending the National Gluten Free conference on

the 6th and 7th of June out in Irving?

I missed applying for the scholarship and will soon head out to the

Autism One conference, so pending here if yay or nay at my end.

I have a place to stay should I go but just wondering if it will be

worth it?

I know I will end up learning about the Gluten Free food items and

always have to tweak it around my son's special diet though but maybe

worth hearing about the research information and thensome.

Has anyone attended this conference?

I wanted to share this information here on the listserve was that I

totally had forgotten about a contest on the Martha show

awhile back and since I have not had time to watch it or review the

blog, one of the most leading topic that made the cut was on food

allergies, which I will post as is below.

Just reviewed it as the contest is over.

Many who had replied with their votes were coming from parents,

relatives, friends, etc. who knew someone who suffered from food

allergies or food intolerances,etc.

Check it out, read up on the Blog of the contest that was going on and

those who voted as I missed out.

Irma

Forwarding as is:

The Winner of the Martha Big Idea Contest is ...

drumroll please ... a new food allergy magazine! This is a food

allergy and sensitivity website after all. Do you think we would be so

excited to make the big announcement if the digital scrapbook idea had

one? For those of you who are new to the " Big Idea, " Martha

Living pooled ideas from their staff for future media. The ideas were

narrowed down to seven finalists and then posted to the Martha

blog where viewers were encouraged to vote. The polls were closed on

February 7, and today, the winners were announced on the Martha

show. That is correct, two winners were chosen, both magazines ...

The ideas for two new publications, one focused on food allergies and

one targeted at pet lovers beat out the competition, which included a

Martha store, e-scrapbook, collecting publication, line of

home merchandising, and an MSLO employee cookbook.

This Big Idea for food allergies was pitched by is, the Deputy

Home Editor at Martha Living Omnimedia. We can expect this

new magazine to encompass the following:

“... a special magazine that offers delicious allergy-friendly

recipes, making life for people with food allergies and sensitivities

easier and more delicious. "

is proposed this Big Idea because " Millions of people, including

myself, can't eat nuts, dairy, wheat or gluten, and I’d like to

empower people to make great recipes even if they can't use all the

standard ingredients.â€

Unfortunately, it is unknown at this time if MSLO will actually

proceed with a food allergy magazine, or rather just incorporate some

food allergy stories in their current magazine.

Cut and paste to google it.
