Guest guest
I had listened to people talking about social networking sites for a long time. I never really realised what made them so crazy about it. Somebody is on Orkut, others on Facebook and still others on Twitter. Some of these names appealed to me. I even decided that my grandson would be named Orkut and the granddaughter, Twitter. Twitter Sharma..... I like the sound. I was taunted for being primitive for not having any desire to be part of this network. My children also found it odd that I did not want to look for my friends on the Net. I even got branded as asocial. Then I felt impelled to overcome my obstinacy and be a part of Facebook. I stumbled around the various groups linked to me in different ways. I really did not like it much. I am not for so much of networking. But I was happy to see people sharing almost everything on these sites. I do not like social networking sites because I communicate with my friends differently. But why does Kapil Sibal not like them? He has reportedly said these networks are a threat to national integration, religious harmony and class amity. I have never heard anybody else talking about any such threat. How has Sibal got this idea into his head? Perhaps Shashi Tharoor would know. I think Sibal is afraid the Netizens would discuss whether Manmohan suffers from akinetic mutism or Parkin's Disease. Someone may want to know why Digvijay Singh digs up so much shit. There might be a debate regarding the mystery surrounding Our Lady of Salvation. Others might be interested in knowing whether 'Pappu' can or can't dance the political dance. Somebody may start an online game where people can guess what Mayawati carries in her handbag. Can Mulayam recycle his cycle? We may even want to know whether Didi wears Relaxo or Lakhani chappals. There may be questions about 2G or 3G.Poor Mr Sibal does not know that we have better things to do. So why this raving and ranting. There is a saying: " Man is too stupid to know how stupid he is. " I think I read it in Catch 22. I wonder if Sibal has read it. Bharat
