small unmarked street off Hwy 26, but there is a Blockbuster

right there at the corner of Hwy 26 and Road to the Mall.

In 2002, SMU created the Institute for Reading Research, whose primary mission

is to

promote reading skills through research in the areas of developing reading

interventions

for children at-risk for failing to learn to read, including children with

mental retardation.

Dr. Francesca , Assistant Research Professor with the project will describe

a

comprehensive reading program that has been implemented as part of a this

longitudinal,

large-scale research study in which effective methods for teaching

elementary-aged children

with cognitive disabilities have been analyzed. She will explain the curricular

features that led

to success of the students and highlight techniques for addressing language,

fluency, and

behavior. She will also present an overview of findings from the first two

years of the program,

including case studies describing individual student progress.
