If you have ever wondered what it would take for your district to use ABA,

please attend this meeting. It should be a great opportunity for everyone

to share their ideas about how to create quality public school autism

programs which use ABA.

May 2008 FEAT-Houston Meeting

Date: Thursday, May 8, 2008

Time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Topic: ABA & Public Schools Round Table Discussion

Please join us for an important discussion about the use of ABA in public

schools. The format of the meeting will be a moderated round-table

discussion. Feedback from this meeting will be used to inform decisions

about how FEAT-Houston can support and promote the use of ABA in public

schools. FEAT-Houston is exploring the possibility of creating public

schools grants. In order to establish areas of funding priority, it would

be helpful to hear from parents about their children's needs and from

educators about the barriers they face in improving educational programming

for students with autism.

We hope to have a constructive exchange of information which will help both

parents and educators become collaborators in improving educational

programming for students with autism.

The topics which will be discussed include:

1. How can the use of ABA be developed in public schools?

2. What are the barriers to developing ABA programs in public schools?

3. How can public schools expand the capacity to provide ABA to more

students with autism?

4. How can public schools gauge the success of educational programming for

students with autism?

Location: Gee Center, 3599 Westcenter Drive, Phone: .

Directions: Take the Richmond exit off Beltway 8. Turn onto Richmond east of

the Beltway. The first street you can turn at will be Westcenter. Turn south

onto Westcenter and drive only about a block and the Community Center will

be on the left.

If you have a specific question or experience you would like to discuss but

are not sure about sharing it " live " at the meeting, please e-mail it in

advance to gbliss1@...

Any chance of posting the meeting results to the group -- those of

us not in Houston might still be able to benefit from your

recommendations?

My autism journey isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning

to dance in the rain.... Texas Autism Advocacy: www.TexasAutismAdvocacy.org

" There are some aspects of a person's life that we have no right to

compromise. We cannot negotiate the size of an institution. No one should live

in one. We cannot debate who should get an inclusive education. Everyone

should. We cannot determine who does and who does not get the right to make

their own choices and forge their own futures. All must. "
