Guest guest
That sounds like a “goals” problem. Is there a local advocate that you can hire to help you with that part? There has got to be something fishy about the goals—either they aren’t specific and measurable enough. . . .or they aren’t sent with a year’s worth of progress in mind. S. Here in Olympia, they are doing field trips twice a week, while at the same time allowing the ASD students to pass from grade level to grade level without making any real academic progress. Guest guest
I think what they do, across the board with all ASD kids who are not high enough functioning to be in a general ed setting, is to purposely set ridiculously low goals, totally below the academic standards for their grade / age level. Here in Olympia, they really don't do inclusion - either your kid is high enough functioning to be in general ed WITHOUT an aide, or he or she must be in the self- contained autism classroom. No in between. They basically treat special ed kids as though they are incapable of learning. My solution is to move to Austin - I've already gotten a much better reception from the Round Rock school district than I've had trying to make headway with the Olympia school district here for all these years. I have known several parents before me who have fought and fought with our school district, with only minor success. I'm just not up to it - I'd rather move. - > > That sounds like a " goals " problem. Is there a local advocate that you can > hire to help you with that part?
