Guest guest
I have a daughter who was diagnosed with Aspergers when she was 18. She is now 21 and still dependent on us. She works 3 days a week for 2 1/2 hrs. I need to know where I can find someone to help her with social and living skills so she can become independent. I live in the Dallas area (Plano). Any help would be appreciated. She has qualified for SSDI. Thanks,

Guest guest
, Dr. Fellini in Dallas does counseling and may also do a group with adults with autism and asperger. I have also heard parents speak highly of Wall who also works with teens and adults doing social skills in particular. If you email me privately I cna send you the ASCC parent resource packet with addresses and information on therpists, doctors etc... Guest guest
I would love to network with you guys, too. Although, I'm in Katy, TX. I have a son (9) and my husband (42) are both Aspergers. My husband is unable to work because he stays home to help with our son. I'd love to find out more SSDI. We haven't been very successful finding a lawyer or something that could help us. Any suggestions? > > > > I have a daughter who was diagnosed with Aspergers when she was 18. > She > > is now 21 and still dependent on us. She works 3 days a week for 2 > 1/2 > > hrs. Guest guest
We didn't use a lawyer. Everyone told us we were lucky to qualify the first time we applied. I really can't explain it. After our daughter graduated from high school we didn't know what to do. We took her to the Texas Rehabilitation Center (DARS). We thought she had ADHD and dyslexia and they had graduated her too soon. DARS sent her to be tested by a neuropsychologist and we were shocked to find out she had AS (we had never heard of this). They sent her to group counseling with people who were ex drug addicts, had anger issues, etc. Of course she was frightened and didn't fit. She would curl up in a ball and refuse to talk because the people in the group would yell at her for not participating. The counselor didn't know much about AS. She was kicked out of the group. DARS told me they couldn't do anything for her if she couldn't even participate in this group. SIGH!!! We applied for SSDI, used her IEP school records, records from 2 psychiatrists, her counselor of 3 years, DARS, the neuropsychologist, and they sent her to an outside psychiatrist. I had detailed records that I had kept over the years and maybe that helped. I don't know what else to tell you.
