Guest guest
Actually, we were forced out of our public school into a private one that saved our child from institutionalization. We were essentially kicked out AND sued. Some people like to say that was our " choice " , but our first choice was public and that is where we are now. It is a shame when a private placement doesn't work out, and I'm not sure how they can keep a deposit and tuition prepayments if they don't ever even accept your child, but at least they don't keep get getting a paycheck from you for perpetuity when they no longer provide any services to your child. Not every private school is going to be a fit for every child. Sadly, our public schools claim to be able to provide a FAPE for every child in district boundaries and fail at the child's grave expense. Clearly that notorious private school is getting a bad rep for those tactics. The cool thing is, no one has to go there. Our one bad experience with public schools would never make me want to ensure that option was not available to others. It just makes me recognize the importance of families having the freedom to exercise choice when their backs are against a wall in a tyrannical situation. $1,250 in lost fees is peanuts compared to what it costs to go through due process, so I can certainly see why that decision was a good one for you. I'm not sure the point you are trying to make about the overly simplistic statement: " Private does not equal good and public does not equal bad. " We support both private and public schools that educate children appropriately. I do not support my tax dollars going to a public school that refuses to provide FAPE to my child and using them to sue us with. Not sure how much more clear I can be on this subject. > > > > > > > > > > You know, a parent of a special needs child only has so much energy. > Why > > put all of your energy into a very negative fight against the school > > bureaucracy?
