Guest guest
Dear Craigs List Staff, I am copying this message to all autism listserv's I am a part of, in hopes that you would remove the inhumane posts from your website on the " rants and raves " section -- where an individual, or individuals, are personally attacking individuals with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am hoping that others in the autism community would encourage you to remove those posts or ban that poster as well. The posts are listed below at the end of this e-mail. It would be fruitless to engage in an exchange with the poster of those vile statements, so I would hope that as owner of such a reputable website, you would remove those posts and not give that person such a platform. I pray that the person behind those remarks never grows old and becomes a useless burden to their family or someone who must care for them someday; -- or is involved in a car accident leaving them paralyzed to thus become someone else's object of amusement --- as those with autism seem to be to that person.... It's people like that poster that affirm that my son -- who does not understand his disability nor the remarks of others about him and his disability -- is the most non-disabled among us. Sincerely, M. Guppy " Living with a disability is difficult. Acknowledging this difficulty is not a defeat, but a hard-won accomplishment in learning to live a life that is not disabled. The difficulty for people with disabilities has two parts --- living our ordinary, but difficult lives, and changing sturctures, beliefs, and attitudes that prevent us from living ordinarily. Guppy My autism journey isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain.... Texas Autism Advocacy: www.TexasAutismAdvocacy.org " There are some aspects of a person's life that we have no right to compromise. We cannot negotiate the size of an institution. No one should live in one. We cannot debate who should get an inclusive education. Everyone should. We cannot determine who does and who does not get the right to make their own choices and forge their own futures. All must. "
