Guest guest
Hello, Well, we had my daughters staffing today. I'm not usually surprised by anything they say anymore but today was different. Not really surprised at all, I just couldn't believe I was hearing what one individual was saying. Let me start by highlighting some key aspects of the meeting. First, previously when I enquired what a FBA was and would that be what you used to look at some specific behaviors that L has to determine the best way to deal with them I was told, " A functional behavior assessment is for kids with severe emotional problems. " And that since L doesn't have severe emotional issues it doesn't apply to her. So, when I wanted to check their answer today she said FBA is ONLY for students with severe behavior issues and again, it is NOT in any way applicable to L whatsoever. Despite me wondering why for 2 years she often is very loud and will make this really loud sound (for lack of a better description)many times right in a person's face or ear. That's just one reason. The recommendations that were given the dianostician took right out of a ADHD book. All of her issues of staying on task, quickly losing focus, difficulty staying still, problems with keeping her hands to herself & doesn't understand boundaries, enjoys playing by her own rules that she creates rather than those of others and seems to have difficulty adapting during dramatic/cooperative play. One examiner recounts when a photographer was at the school. How L imitated the sounds he made & laughed at his jokes but when he slapped his thigh to make the child getting pictures smile, L mimicked him by slapping the children next to her & appeared surprise that they did not laugh. All of these issues including her problems with " working " memory are all due to her attention issues. Dang! I don't have time to include the one thing I couldn't quite believe I was hearing. Gotta go!
