Guest guest
I just thought I'd post a follow up to the s Manfield Comforttherm product that I posted a link to a couple weeks ago. It is wrapped in poly cover to cut down on fiberglass dust. It looks in the pictures and in the description that it is encased or encapsulated in poly wrap but in actual fact it is exposed at both ends so not encased. They use the word encased or encapsulated and pictures look like it is totally enclosed but it is cut at both ends of 8 ft batts. There are pin holes in the wrap to allow it to breath and usually comes w a vapor retarder on one side to be placed toward the interior of bldg. Some points I found out through various attempts to use it are: you can use only one layer of it because two layers would block the pin holes. If you need more insulation than one layer, you have to use a fiberglass product as the other layer, either blown in or unfaced batts. They said materials like cellulose are too dense and would block the pin holes from breathing. The other issue is that they said if there is two layers the vapor retarder must be the first layer, next to interior wall or ceiling. Therefore the installation they show in their own brochure featuring the product, can only be done this way in a the few areas that they sell their product without a vapor retarder, just a few southern states. Due to this, I have cancelled plans to use it in attic as the point was to not have any exposed fiberglass and I have to use more than one layer. Asked about the brochure and they said it's being rolled over the top so it can be featured. Just thought I'd pass this along. Seems like a nice product for walls or under floor insulation but for attic it would have to be first layer and blown in fiberglass over the top or batts and if you are going to do that, seems you might as well do it all blown in or all batts. Picture of installation, on 'installation' tab. They say 'not' to install it in this way in most states! Seems they should put a note to that affect here. : http://webapps.easy2.com/cm2/flash/generic_index.asp?page_id=36044183
