i_mac,

Maybe because it is such a low dose?

I don't know, because I have never been on Symbicort.

I have had to go on some steroid creams over the years for

dermatology situations, and have not had a problem.

So, I am assuming very low doses and topical applications don't cause

any problems.

Again, though, I don't know much on this -

maybe others here will have better insight.

The inhaled meds such as Symbicort (which I take as well) and Advair

are actually corticosteroids. They are a type of steroid but are in a

different classification. Kind of like the difference between sulfa

and sulfite. From what I have been able to gather most people who

have problems with regular steroids (prednisone, medrol, salumedrol,

depomedrol, etc.) won't have issues with corticosteroids. It may have

something to do with the way your body metabolizes it since the

corticosteroids are inhaled rather than injested or injected.

Madeline,

I would think inhaled steroids work at the site, with not enough

getting into the body to cause any major problems -

is that right?

You could very well be right. I am not sure what the difference is,

but I do know that our bodies handle the inhaled corticosteroids

differently than the injested or injected types.
