Guest guest
I do not own this group, but if you have any allergies to sulpha, sulphur, or suphites, this group has a ton of information on it all. I have a sulpha medi alert on all of my charts...it is an antibiotic that I react to violently. I also cannot tolerate any sulphur...like in matches that are struck..they trip my asthma for hours. Sulphites are an interesting group of things as well that I am studying...they are in every thing we eat and in shampoos and conditioners that have made me break out on my legs. It is only for those sensitive to those things...they all make my asthma worse, but may not make everyone's asthma worse. I have not got into eliminating sulphites in my diet or toiletries totally...but it is interesting reading and something for me to think about. It is not a spam oriented group. Just people like me that are coping with this strange allergy. Sulpha is used widely for UTI's, and any staph infection....it posed a big problem when I caught MRSA three years ago. That was their drug of choice, and I almost died with a spider bite that got infected because the antibiotics that they kept giving me did nothing. They finally cut the whole bite out and put me on some kind of antibiotic I never heard of. It just is a group only on that subject. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sulfitesnomore/ much love! Guest guest
I took Bactrim (sulfa based) for 9 days before I broke out in a severe total body rash of hives. That was I think the first time Id ever taken prednisone...to stop the reaction. Sometimes now if I eat too much dried fruit my face gets splotchy and I start with a minor rash..but what really does me in is wine and beer. Malted drinks like smirnoffs or parrot bay or bacardi's drinks dont bother me...but Ive figured out that none of those have sulfites in them. Red wine in particular makes my face turn beet red almost immediately....and Im wondering if that has to do with the oak content as well as the sulfites in red wine. I do have an allergy to oak trees..as evidenced by the timing of my worst asthma in FL 2 yrs running. I might have to check the other website out and see what is up...thanks Cindi... Guest guest
Yes. Do check the other site. There is a TON of info on sulfa (and sulfites in particular). I had no idea about the connections between sulfa and sulfites. There are several symptoms I have had all my life that I just put off to my Irish genetics, but they are all symptoms of a sulfite allergy. BTW my face turns red very quickly after red wine as well. Interesting. Anyway kudos to Cindi. Great group. Madeline > > I took Bactrim (sulfa based) for 9 days before I broke out in a severe total body rash of hives.?
