Guest guest
You know, I don't know where these people get their information. I downloaded the info from Nipa right after I bought the Phenonip from BB waaaaaaay back when and I don't recall seeing anything to this effect. The other problem is that I had read several places that you couldn't preserve a borax/beeswax emulsion with a traditional preservative (I've seen this about Germaben specifically from someone who was selling it) and I'd heard it about all of the three normally used. Well, I asked Maurice about it since it supposedly applied to stearic acid and baking soda emulsions too. Maurice said he'd never heard that at all and he had no idea what would be used as an alternative. So now I have no idea what to believe. I guess that's why you're supposed to have the challenge testing done eh? Seems like it's always something. I am still really pissed about my avocado from TDF going bad. I guess I should pitch it but I can't seem to bring myself to throw all that oil away. I'm afraid to check anything else I got from her, though I probably should. Ugh. Angie from The Herbarie sent me a price break list of the natural surfactants that she sells-I haven' had a chance to compare it with her site yet though. I asked on the cosmetic list and Maurice said they were genuinely considered natural surfactants as they are derived from natural products not lab created based on naturals lol. Wanted to make sure I knew what I was telling others ;-) I might just ask around and see if someone out there sells a premade natural surfactant base-yeah, I know-I thought I saw a pig fly by a few minutes ago. Just might headed your way! I haven't even started making ANYTHING for the September show and I know I need to get on that before I find myself in some serious trouble before too long. Apparently some companies are already being able to get $250 for a gallon of Emu. I imagine it just might be the gal from that Gentle Ridge place-I noticed her stuff was pretty high already. I don't know if I should suck it up and buy a ton of it from now and pray I have enough to get me through or if I should just buy enough to make sure I get through the show and reformulate, or reformulate now. UGH!!!! Why isn't this easier?? I just can't envision laying down $1000 for Emu oil alone, you know?? I decided on the 8 oz cosmo rounds from CPS. They're clearanced right now for $0.19 ea so if I bought about 2000 now I should be ok for a little while. I priced them out on a few other sites and even at regular price it would still be cheaper using the place in Eagle for these particular bottles. The label looks really elegant on the tall, slim bottle (probably why I hate tall skinny women eh?? <EG>) and looks hilarious on the boston rounds. Though, it looks ok if I turn the label so it's more like a narrow band around the bottle-kind of Body shop ish, which isn't bad. Well, I should really be labeling my lotions for . I priced out my deodorant for her last night. Sheesh, wish I would have done that before making it. I will have to retail it for a wholesale price to even sell any of it as I don't know of anyone in their right mind who would pay $8 for a tube of deodorant. Uh, definitely not me. Live and learn I guess. Well, hope today goes ok for you guys. Re: Pheonip Deactivation? > , Maurice et all - your comets on this information about Phenonip please. > > The only real drawback to Phenonip is that it deactivates in the presence of some PEG compounds. Polysorbate 20, which is a PEG compound, does NOT deactivate under Phenonip. Be careful, though, if you are using a prepared e-wax (such as Emulsifying Wax NF), as it may deactivate the preservative, thereby rendering your formula unprotected from molds, yeasts, fungi and bacteria.> > Thanks, > Bobbi Guerra > The Purple Sage > Fine Hand Made Bath & Body Products I'm curious IF that is true. I've read info on Phenonip, including the NIPA site, and didn't notice this having been mentioned. In fact, their company tends to lean the other direction and insists it works and doesn't become less powerful over time unlike some other preservatives. So, where does the truth lie?
