You're welcome, Carol.You know what's scary, though -I was reading a couple months ago how they are talking about washing machines not having a hot cycle, or something like that. But there were experts in the field saying that is not aceptable, because you need 140 to kill all the mites. Alana>> Thats why i ONLY wash in HOT water. Thanks for posting this !> > CAROL CARUSO

Do things not shrink, though, at that temperatiure? The hottest we usually have is 90C, and that's only for white cotton. Most of my clothes go in either at 30 or 40C depending on what is actually being washed.

IF you concerned about things shrinking, it mainly happens in the drying cycle (Dryer) so hang them up to dry I wash every thing we own in HOT water, the Hotter the better.

Ah! I didn't realise you use farenheit - I'd thought that was a bit hot for a washing machine!

I have no idea what teh conversion is, as farenheit is very rarely used here now, and anyone in about their 40s and younger have grown up with celcius. I think freezing point, 0C is about 32F, but as the scales are not exact (there is a bigger gap between each farenheit degree), then there is no simple formula. Howver, celcius is v simple - freezing point is 0C, and boilng point 100C.

Hi Jenn,

Maybe clothes would, but not towels and bedding.

I also do socks and underwear in hot. I wash my clothes in cold water, and line dry.

I recently started using a laundry additive that is supposed to kill mites, whenever I have to wash in cold water. I am not familiar with celsius -

what is that in farenheit?

There is a site where you put one value in and it computes the other for you.

30c = 86f

40c = 104f
