Guest guest
Shell MERV 10 is really quite good compared to the old glass fibre filters that were just meant to protect the motor, fan and ducts from hair, skin particles and fabric debris that would clog the cooling passages and increase the dust load in the ducting. Although enough research has not been done for it to be a legitimate theory (but enough has been done to make it a legitimate hypothesis), many studies have shown that the very-fine dust has a strong effect on health; it can get deep into the lung and transfers almost all of its pollution load to the bloodstream before it is removed by swallowing. What you breathe and hold onto is more dangerous than what you swallow, since the toxins delivered from the lung do not go through the liver before they go through the body, but what we eat is liver-filtered before being circulated in the arteries. Research on SVOC (Semi-Volatile Organic Compounds) has not been well-enough done yet, even though many of these compound are more dangerous than the solvents that we know so much more about. Proper sampling is still difficult and it may always be somewhat more expensive than to sample for VOC (the solvents). Still, we know enough to act and try to keep the fine and very-fine dust out of our indoor air if we are to have healthier housing. You do not need to know everything to act when the essential processes are understood well enough to indicate that this is a major toxin delivery mechanism. Anyone think that I am going too far?
