I exhale, inhaled the meds and wheeze the release.......it works for me. At least right now.....it is a wheeze..........That is if I don't get into a fit of coughing upon the release. Sometimes I cough when I do my inhalers......... I cough a lot. But I keep doing them. I really hate coughing fits. They are not fun, especially if one is at work having one. Guest guest
Welcome . Most of us have been dealing with asthma for many years, in varying degrees of severity. In my understanding, either one has or doesn't have asthma, athough it can range from mild to severe. I believe your exposure to cats isn't going to make you " more asthmatic " but it may increase your chances of having attacks. I've never tried allergy shots but hear they help some people with controlling their allergies and asthma. > > Hello, > > I'm new to the group and new to Asthma. Guest guest
Hi . I am not well versed on animal allergies as I don't have any, but it seems to me that if your allergy med is controlling your symptoms you shouldn't worry. I do know that some people do take sensitivity shots for different allergies and they do wonders. If you don't have an appointment with your allergist coming up fairly soon, I would make one and discuss the shots with him. Also, he will have you blow into his little machine to assess your breathing. Although with allergic induced asthma you don't tend to have issues if your allergy is controlled. Guest guest
Madeline, I take allergy meds and still can't go into homes with dogs or cats that live in the house, within 5 minutes I'm in a full blown attack. The dr and I have seriously discussed the allergy shots but when the insurance company and I laid it all out (they are very controlling on what they will pay for) anyways in the long run the current course of meds is the bests route for me as I am making the changes to avoid the trigger. Remember I had to get rid of my cat and I was on Singular earlier this year when all that happened. Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Teddy Bear's Early Learning ProgramEstablished August of 1992 From: asthma [mailto:asthma ] On Behalf Of MadelineSent: Wednesday, December 03, 2008 6:32 AMTo: asthma Subject: Re: Developing Asthma Hi . Guest guest
I have been MIA myself for the last week or so. I've been trying to catch up the last day or two. Boy the list was busy yesterday. Cindi, do you have a nebulizer? I was doing the same thing with my inhalers. They made me cough, sometimes severely. The liquid meds in my nebulizer don't do that. They are just very soothing (to my lungs anyway!) Madeline > > > > /I don't want to wheeze, I've been fighting this mess with my lungs > > since last night. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! I understand your situation - whenever I would go to someone's house that had pets, I would be at death's door by the time I got home. I had pets at the time, so I'm still trying to figure that one out. I had allergy shots for about 6 years - don't remember it doing much. But, I am in the minority on that - I think most people here have had good results. If there is no emergency for you to start taking the shots right away, I would try all the supplements that are good for allergies first - you might be able to save yourself all the time, trouble and expense of going through the shots. Of course, always talk to your Doctor before taking any supplements. Alana > > Hello, > > I'm new to the group and new to Asthma. Guest guest
Oh yes, the bug eye look. I also turn really red in the face and yes I sweat too. It just starts up outta no where. Co-workers ask if they can do anything for me. Like what? Take the cough for your self? Being sarcastic, sorry. Cheryl Burton ncicheryl@... Guest guest
Tell them a cold drink or a cold rag I know how helpless people can feel when they see us have these attacks. Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Teddy Bear's Early Learning ProgramEstablished August of 1992 From: asthma [mailto:asthma ] On Behalf Of Cheryl BurtonSent: Wednesday, December 03, 2008 12:09 PMTo: asthma Subject: Re: Developing Asthma Oh yes, the bug eye look. Guest guest
I find that sometimes when I use my nebulizer it makes me choke and cough. Cheryl Burton ncicheryl@... To: asthma Sent: Wednesday, December 3, 2008 3:44:04 AMSubject: Re: Developing Asthma I have been MIA myself for the last week or so. I've been trying tocatch up the last day or two. Boy the list was busy yesterday. Cindi, do you have a nebulizer? I was doing the same thing with myinhalers. They made me cough, sometimes severely. The liquid meds inmy nebulizer don't do that. They are just very soothing (to my lungsanyway!)Madeline Recent Activity 12 New MembersVisit Your Group Yahoo! Health Memory Loss Are you at risk for Alzheimers? Guest guest
Hi : Welcome to this relatively tight-knit group full of good people.\ I found out using the scientific method animal allergies are ANIMAL SPECIFIC, meaning you can be allergic to one and not thousands of others. Each cat's dander has different amounts and kinds of amino acids, proteins, etc. which makes it very genetic, perhaps sometimes even breed-specific. Ask vets about this. In my case, long-term low-level exposure to mold in the water-damaged house I used to rent caused my asthma. This was proven taking samples of the air by a certified mold consultant, and subsequent RAST blood tests (NO pin pricks! that is the old method) The Ige only shows a total immunoglobulin level without any component breakdown, compared to RAST (I believe it stands for Respiratory Allergy Serology Test). I rescued a cat last year, moved into a brand new mold-free house in the country, and my RAST showed now I'm reacting to cat AND dog dan- der. Before I wasn't with 7 different cats, and never had a dog. Singulair and allergy shots may provide symptomatic relief. There is still the question of continued exposure over time. Cleaning house or apt. of pet dander with frequent vacuum/shampooing will help you lower your exposure. So will limiting your time spent there and your proximity to the cats. If they can be outdoors while you are inside a cleaned space in the house could be the safest procedure. A former girlfriend was VERY allergic to cats, BUT NOT MINE! 4 cats in the house and no symptoms, could even pet them, sleep over week- ends no problem. The only 3 real ways of monitoring your condition scientifically is using a good Peak Flow Meter, doing computerized spirometry with a pulmonologist, and the RAST any MD or DO can order from a blood lab. The Peak Flow Meter is very effective and can be done by you anytime whether you feel symptoms or not. You can also use it to track your response to medication to find out how much your meds help you. Mine is the Airlife Asthma Checker, Catalog #002068, handheld made by Respironics New Jersey, Inc. and distributed by Cardinal Health. In- expensive, lightweight and very accurate. I swear by it. Call 1-800- 327-7503 for info. You might even be able to get it for free. I did at a local hospital when I was treated for an attack. Take care, > > Hello, > > I'm new to the group and new to Asthma.
