Guest guest
Hi . I know that having a couple of tablespoons of local honey each day mixed with a tablespoon of organic apple cider is a wonderous combination. It helps with allergies to all kinds of pollens (usually takes several weeks to months before you notice major improvements). My daughter has all kinds of allergies in the spring and fall. She has not had to use any kind of prescription allergy treatment for over two years now. The honey builds her immunities to the pollens. It has to be local honey. Harvested from the area you live in. Something about injesting the pollens creates immunities in your body (sounds like the sensitivity shots huh?). The apple cider vinegar will help control any reflux or stomach acid problems. I know that general rule of thumb for that is 2 tbsps before each meal. Those are the only 2 natural cures that I have found to really help me. Although there are a bunch out there. Those will help two major triggers for asthma attacks - pollen allergies and reflux. Also, when you are exercising or exerting yourself or when you feel like you are having trouble breathing - breathe in through your nose and exhale for twice as long through pursed lips (like drinking through a straw). I won't get into all the details behind that one, but it works. Well. It prevents hyperventilating and panic as well as calming the lungs. You should practice it now before you need it so you will be comfortable with it. I usually breath in for 2-3 counts and then out for 4-6. Hope this helps some. Guest guest
Welcome . I have had asthma for almost 25 yrs and it has gotten much worse over the years. I wouldn't call it a treatment for asthma per se, but I do take a pilates class that I feel helps with my breathing and makes me feel better overall. > > Hi everyone -- I'm , 42, in Los Angeles. Guest guest
Hi Rose. My doc says that the Buteyko method is nothing more than counting your breathing and controlling the amount of time you breath in as compared to breathing out. Very easy to do on your own. You breathe in through your nose and out through pursed lips for double the amount of time. It is a good method to help control an attack and is also very helpful any time you feel stressed or are exerting yourself (like when exercising). I understand completely how frustrating the steroids are. I have been on a steady 60mg/day dosage for months now. I have full blown Cushings syndrome and a myriad of other health issues directly caused by the steroids. We are currently working on trying to step down my dosage very very gradually to find the smallest dosage that will control me. However, it is obvious that I am steroid dependent. My asthma doc and two other specialists have told me that there is a small percentage of asthmatics who just can not be controlled any other way. I have tried numerous herbs and all kinds of home remedies. The only thing that has been truly effective for me is the steroids and learning to control my breathing patterns. Guest guest
Oh Hun.. so sad to know about your situation, I hope the doctor would be able to lower your dosage. In my case is aftecting my eye sight and of course weight and blood pressure. .. my general doctor tole me that it also causes depression, is it true??. I will do what you said about the control of my breathing... :X Thank you for sharing your knowledge with me, it feel so good to know there are people who understand me and help each other.. I am so glad to be here... Thanks Madeline!!! -- Re: Acupuncture or other alternative treatments for asthma? Hi Rose. Guest guest
Yes. It causes depression, anger, and mood swings. If you are not already taking it ask your doc for Xanax. It is WONDERFUL!!!! My doc had to talk me into taking it because I hate taking all these medicines, but now I would fight if they tried to take it away (but there is no chance of that. They are upping my dosage!) It will not only help with the mood issues, but it will help with the physical symptoms like the shakes too. Madeline > > > > > > Hi everyone -- I'm , 42, in Los Angeles.
