Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Well, the doctor's nurse called today about my blood work for my stomach issues. She said something showed up on my blood work and he wanted to run a scope down into my stomach the same day he does my colonoscopy. I asked her what showed up on the blood work, so I will know what exactly he is looking for. A few minutes later, the doctor himself called me and said that a tested borderline positive for Celiac disease and one of my stool specimens was positive for inflammatory disease. So, now he will do the stomach scope and the colonoscopy for a definite diagnosis. I am terrified and shocked. Does this mean I do have Celiac? Let's see Hashi's and Celiac disease, and I haven't seen the RA doctor yet. I wonder if my whole body is under attack by my immune system? I don't know what to do or how to feel about all of this, but I don't guess that matters. Anyway, Oct 18th is my colonoscopy and stomach scope. I guess I will find out for sure then. Guest guest
Hi Mike, I don't think dr's get it that we can't afford that stuff. The suggestion for the surgery may be of a big help to you but will your insurance company cover it? It's so frustrating with this entire insurance stuff, I understand why you'd want to change jobs for one with a larger employee # for better insurance. My heart goes out to you. Terry I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. ~Mother Teddy Bear's Early Learning ProgramEstablished August of 1992 From: asthma [mailto:asthma ] On Behalf Of MikeSent: Wednesday, December 03, 2008 5:14 PMTo: asthma Subject: Update Hi all,It's been a while since I posted, but I have been reading a lot of the threads.I saw my dr yesterday and he wants me to pursue 2 avenues of treatment. First, he wants to start Xolair. My insurance policy does not cover it. Has anyone looked into the Genetech (Xolair's manufacturer) assistance program? All I hear is that it is horibly expensive. We are taking this move as the Zyflo I've been on for the past 6 weeks has caused some rashes to appear on my legs. We stopped the Zyflo yesterday.Second, the doctor is advocating gastric bypass. I don't meet the 100 pounds overweigght criteria, but with hypetension and being pre-diabetic, I qualify. I was told that the fat in my chest is pressing against my lungs and hampering the breathing. With gastric bypass, the asthma will not go away, but my breathing should be eased. Has anyone else heard this? Tried this?I am getting a feeling that it may be time to look for a job with more employees so i can get a better insurance package. I manage a drug/alcohol program with 4 employees, including myself. Two sister programs in state bring us up to an even dozen. That gives us high rates and lousy coverage. Ah well, time to dust off the resume.Mike
Guest guest
I am sitting here laughing. My pulmonologist keeps telling me that if I get some weight off it will take stress off of my lungs as well, then he goes and prescribes more steroids! LOL Talk about an oxymoron (or should I just say moron!) Xolair does have a good assistance program if you meet their criteria. Your doctor has to submit the assistance application to them. The patient can't do it. When we first talked about Xolair for me, my insurance was going to cover it with a $250 copay per shot. Let's see that is 2 shots every 2 weeks for a total of $1000 per month. There was no way I could do that. Through the Xolair program it was reduced to $15/shot. So that was a huge decrease. However, by the time we actually started it I was on workers comp. That took care of everything anyway. I've been missing your posts. Good to hear from you!
