Guest guest
This is our 27th home in less than 25 years, so I guess you could call me experienced at moving.... I got the best suggestion for you: If you are fortunate enough to have a garage, or den, or extra room, have them take ALL the boxes there (not sofas and stuff, obviously). Then unpack ONE box at a time and put all the stuff in it where it belongs, and you wouldn't believe how much easier (and NEATER) it is this way! My house always looked like an explosion in a thrift store when we moved, and this helped a LOT! It's calming to feel like you're doing something in an orderly fashion, and when I'm moving, I NEED calming!! ( " Move " is a four-letter word here, as is " pack, " etc.) Also, if using a mover, write down every scratch, dent, etc. on your furniture, and show it to them before they pack it, and get them to sign whatever it is showing that they know about it. Some places just number the boxes, with a master list of the contents separate, so that if your new place gets broken into, they can't just run in and grab the box marked " computer " or " vcr. " Just some thoughts. Take everything you can think of that you will need for the first 2 nights separately, if you can. Toothpaste, toilet paper, etc. Walk through your " typical " day in your mind, and make a list. Leave out 2 changes of clothes. Etc. Hope that helps.... Yours and His, Vivian, who cries when the word " move " is used in her home....
