Vitamin C across the Blood Brain Barrier?

Hello folks.

Is there any evidence (including anecdotal) that shows that DMSO (oral, transdermal and/or intravenous) facilitates the transport of ascorbic acid (vitamin c) across the Blood Brain Barrier (BBB), or even that DMSO actually binds with ascorbic acid and carries it across the BBB?

(and without the need for the conversion of ascorbic acid into dehydroascorbic acid first?)

Thanks much!Glen from Illinois, USAWondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food.

I do not know of specific information. Although I do not have total

recall of the book I use most often DMSO Nature's Healer, it could have

this information.

I do know that DMSO transports molecules under 1000 dalton molecular

weight. All molecules as far as I know, that are under the weight. I do

not know the weight of Vit C but you can likely look it up. Try an MSDS

first. Or Google Vit C and molecular weight.

Also a literature on Medline or other medical data base might yeild some

results. Some literature services charge for journal articles but your

local interlibrary loan department might help you and obtain articles

for free. Or for a small fee.

A medical library would be an excellent resource if you are near a

medical school.

Please do share your findings or lack there of with the list.
