The number of retractions for published scientific articles is sharply on the rise. I've written about this many times before but the trend is getting worse rather than better. These bad studies are dangerous because they pollute the body of scientific knowledge now and in the future because those studies will be used as source material for other studies and likely will not be checked for accuracy let alone redoing the experiments for fresh data sets. Those studies will then go on to be used as source material in more studies with the errors compounding each step of the way.

The medical studies can lead to people getting hurt or killed while other studies can lead to government regulations and control, as that always works out so well. The $1.7 trillion spent on regulation compliance already has really led to a bang up economy.

I'm wondering how many of these people dummy up their studies in order to get more government money or other research grants?http://www.nytimes.com/2012/04/17/science/rise-in-scientific-journal-retractions-prompts-calls-for-reform.html?_r=1
