I have been doing this for awhile to make sure I am not paying for these

kinds of charges. My bank has started charging for formally " free " accounts,

but so far I am able to meet the criteria for that fee being waived. I only

have to make 5 eligible transactions a month [either check or debit card

purchaces] to avoid paying $9.99 a month to " maintain " my account. I do that

easily. If that ever changes I will be bank shopping.

Take care,

Gail :-)

My bank has started charge a fee for using checks, assessed per check. They are seriously beginning to annoy me but since my business crosses state lines, it is convenient to keep using it. It is also sad to say that because of the reams of useless regulations coming from DC it is harder for small banks to stay afloat while the big banks also teeter closer to the edge.

Haven't seen any of the local businesses passing on this particular free though.

Look for fees of this kind to pop up more and more as the economy gets worse.

You will also see a lot more banks begin to fail too.
