Guest guest
A grey-haired, soft spoken Naseeruddin Shah, who looks like your everyday common man, but turns out to be a terrorist; Anupam Kher as a down to earth police commissioner with a little bit of a paunch; hard hitting cop Jimmy Shergill and an energetic sharp shooter cop Amir Bashir all together present you " A Wednesday! " Believe it or not, but this movie begins with the title: Friday pictures present - A Wednesday! That exclamation mark is necessary there. It's not your everyday movie. For one, it has no songs, but you don't miss them for a moment. It also has no heroine, unless you count the TV anchor, but that's also okay. The quiet and cool efficiency with which Naseeruddin plagues the Mumbai police with bomb threats through untraceable SIM cards and a laptop computer atop an under construction building, is simply chilling. The plot begins plainly enough. A terrorist has placed bombs at various places in Mumbai and wants the police to release four terrorists, who have been jailed. But the fun starts when the cat and mouse game begins, with a TV anchor joining in as an unwitting accomplice of the terrorist. Will the terrorists be released? Will the bombs explode? Will the man atop the building be captured? Why is he asking for the release of one terrorist whose bail is likely to be granted soon? The movie keeps you guessing from one stage to the other, until it deals you a wallop of a sting in the tail. There are a few flaws though. For one, even with such a breaking news story around, there's only one TV Channel - UTV news covering it. The anchor is also quite amateurish. Most of the other actors, though, have done a competent job, but Anupam and Naseer stand out for their superlatively natural enactments. There is an extremely well taken moment, when in the midst of the terrorist calls, Anupam receives a phone soliciting a credit card. Superb! Shots of Mumbai streets are well taken and give you the feel of a bustling metropolis. The film is short, but satisfies you with an apt ending. See it for a different sort of entertainment.
