Guest guest
Hi all. Thanks for your responses. I am currently in the hospital again. I believe I posted this on Monday and had to call the ambulance Monday night late. Maybe I will get home tomorrow(LOL)... my peak flows are only 150 today & I am only moving air in the top 1/4 of my lungs. Looks like I'll be here at least another couple of days! Kate, please update me when you go. My doc is currently in the process of negotiating with my insurance (Workers Comp has actually taken responsibility - so extra red tape but they pay better - no out of pocket for travel, lodging or medical to me). When did you start your process? Hopefully this can get expedited since I can't stay out of the hospital for more that a week or two at a time right now. I am very reactive, but I have luckily been able to avoid the ventilator (by the skin of my teeth this time!). > > > > > > Has anyone been sent to Jewish National Hospital in Denver, > Colorado? > > > I have been in the hospital for four weeks since May 16th, and my > > > asthma specialist says that I need to go for a full workup? Guest guest
Thank you all for your caring words. The doctors kind of know what is happening. The company that I worked (notice past tense) for bottles spring water. They manufacture ozone and run it through the water to kill algae and bacteria. I didn't know about the dangers to me in particular from ozone until May 16th when they had a major leak. The building was flooded for over 4 hours with very toxic levels of ozone. The theory at this point is that the ozone event caused an asthma attack which still hasn't stopped. My peak flows haven't exceeded 330 since May 16th and I have spent 4weeks to date in the hospital since then (including the past couple of days). In fact at this time the docs really think that the onset of my asthma last August is probably related to repeated low dose ozone exposure. I obviously had some predisposition (i.e.allergy) to ozone or a weakness in my lungs (probably from smoking for 15 years - quit last aug - something about laying on the side of the road, gaping like a fish, and not having enough air to tell the 911 operator where you are - gave me a new viewpoint) However, since May 16th there is a darkness on the bottom of my left lung that wasn't there before and my lungs ache all of the time (low flows?), I also have a decreased lung volume (I don't remember the exact numbers, but he said that it is what you would expect to see in a 6 year old child - I am 35 and play the french horn regularly or did until May. Now I can't get a scale out of it - not enough air). So we know that there is more going on with asthma, but they are not equipped to do any testing on me until I stabilize. At this point it is questionable that I will stabilize. So - in comes Jewish National Hospital!!!! Guest guest
Hi Madeline, You seem to have a very positive attitude - despite your situation. That is excellent! Glad for you on the Workers Comp picking up the expenses. One less thing to stress about, at least, right? Alana > > Financially I am very very lucky.
