Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Not me, except for a couple of times, something similar, just on one side...kind of warmth, painful and radiating to and from groin . Maybe a nerve? Other things to consider would be preservatives? It can be compounded preservative-free. Also, what kind do you use? There are 3...maybe try another one? I use Hydroxy-form. Other than that, I have heard of a few people with bad reactions. BW, Katrina > > Hi to all, > I have been reading your posts about vit b-12 with interest. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, well I’m one who can’t tolerate B12 either…at any dose, it seems <sigh>. I started getting shots from my alternative practitioner, .5 mg (without and then with folic acid), only every 2 weeks,…all was well at first, I was getting some mild benefit, but after a couple of months I started getting a kind of global inflammatory response, especially the brain…and I had to stop <sigh>. Many years ago, I did try Gamma Globulin by injection, and it also helped me a LOT, but I developed an allergic reaction to the preservative in it (pain & burning at the injection site and then an extreme hyperness from which I’d crash)…and, as there was none around that was preservative free (it had all been shipped to Gulf War 1), I had to stop it. But the B12 was pure, no preservatives, so there you go. You may want to see if there is any preservative in your shots, and if that’s not it, you may be outta luck…like me. Anybody else with this experience? TC, Aylwin xox
Guest guest
Cheryl, could it be the additives that give you problems? I think there is some dye in the medicine (?) and I know there is a small amt of aluminum. I have seen on this list where people talk about getting a form of injectable B12 w/o any additives. Though, I dont know if that would make up risk it again or not. Can you take the sublingual tabs? Or does that also give you the same reaction? Good luck! Guest guest
Up until I started giving myself B-12 injections, I had a thing about injections. Couldn't even watch somebody giving me one. But now my top priority is getting well - that makes a big difference. Having been bedridden for a decade, I couldn't stand the thought of more of the same - it is a living death, in my opinion. For me, there is absolutely nothing more important then getting well; though obviously not everyone feels that way. So I bit the bullet. I gave myself B-12 shots twice a week for a couple of years - only the cheap less effective kind of B-12 though, Cyanocobalamin. Then I started seeing a very good doctor whom wrote a perscription for me. I now give myself B-12 3 times a week and have been for over 2 years. I use Methylcobalamin which has no preservatives, fillers nor additives - or as you would say 'inactive' ingredients. I also have Mulitiple Chemical Sensitivities as well as M.E. and react to many fillers etc. Even magnesium stearate which you will find not only in your drugs but in most supplements - but not all. This is a trans-fat and may only be a little in each tablet and/or capsule but how many of those do you take a day and a month and a year? It really adds up and trans- fats will only make you sicker. Beware of Additives in Supplements Stearates – Hydrogenated Fats Used in the Production of Most Supplements– Decrease Absorption and May Be Toxic and Immunosuppressive by Ron Schmid, N.D., ©2003 Magnesium stearate, stearic acid and ascorbyl palmitate, made by hydrogenating cottonseed or palm oil, are used throughout the supplements industry as lubricants. They are added to the raw materials in supplements so that production machinery will run at maximum speeds. These fatty substances coat every particle of the nutrients, so the particles will flow rapidly. http://www.drrons.com/beware-additives.htm Dietary Supplements: What the Industry does NOT want you to know http://www.westonaprice.org/healthissues/supplements.html http://www.drrons.com/supplements-industry.htm By Ron Schmid, ND Why We Use Absolutely No Additives Stearates found in supplements are hydrogenated fats such as magnesium stearate, stearic acid and ascorbyl palmitate. This has pictures showing how supplements coated with magnesium stearate don't dissolve. http://www.drrons.com/why-no-additives.htm I don't know what Hydroxocobalamin is like; never tried it. Now, lets see Dr Cheney's protocol that he puts his patients on, which is very successful if you ask his patients, also has B-12 as part of the protocol, only I think you have to inject yourself everyday. And then I know that Dr Rea, Dr G Zeim, Dr J Armstrong, Dr Matin Pall, and a whole host of others internationally well known doctors use a protocol that uses B-12 frequently. I wonder if all of those doctors with deserved reputations & piles of experiance for getting people healthier could be all wrong? blessings Shan It is not hard giving one an injection so it will not cause any harm. It is only a matter of getting somebody to show you how - crossig the street is dangerous if you don't know how.
Guest guest
Diane, ?Just from listening to other peoples' posts it seems that response time varies. For me, I start feeling some effects in a few hours, but I really notice the effects the day after or the second day after the shot. Bearing in mind I give them to myself right before bed (b-12 makes it harder to sleep for me), which is around 2 am, I would say I feel the full effects 12-36 hours later. I inject 3 cc once a week, though the effects only last for about 5 days. When I was traveling in Australia this was the only thing that I think got me through. I averaged about 0-3 hours of sleep a night because we kept changing hostels and I can't sleep in strange beds. I got a cold that lasted for the last 3 weeks of the trip. The only thing that allowed me to more or less keep up with my friends every day was injecting 1cc of b-12 every other day. It's one of the rare treatments that I've found to be effective, no matter how long I've been on it. I wish it could help everyone here. Guest guest
Once you FEEL so much better from the injection, I think it becomes a LOT easier! I’m speaking, for myself, of back when I did Gamma Globulin shots (big needle too!) and they helped me so much. But. Like you, Shan, I am MCS too and reacted to the preservative <sigh>, so I had to stop it. And none was available at that time that was preservative free, it had all been shipped off to Gulf War 1. But unfortunately, after several months of the high grade B12 you describe, I developed an inflammatory response to the shots. So, that’s on hold for me, for now. Things are complicated by the fact that I have a non-candida, fungal co-infection that has affected my brain and other aspects, and I am now doing and extended homeopathic regimen to get it out of me. I’m Herxing like crazy (but well-supported with anti-inflammatory herbs etc.), which means it really must be working! Who doesn’t want to get well? I had a bit of a reaction to you saying that, to me it’s just that folks have different opinions about how to go about it, and some have more resources than others to pursue “the cure”. In my 21-1/2 years’ experience with ME, (and ran support groups and counseled thousands, never met ONE who didn’t want to get better) I’ve been all around the alternative as well as mainstream perspectives, and tried just about everything! I know there’s no “magic bullet”, and different combos of therapies work for different people. And, there’s a lot of BS out there too. I have excellent holistic support from a genius of an alt. practitioner (multimodal, though originally a DCM), which has helped me so much with certain aspects, the allergies and a lot of the MCS too, I no longer have IBS (hooray!) and we’ve experimented until we found a way to reduce my pain by about 70%, and now we are doing this antifungal regimen, but overall I’m quite low on the functional scale…about 20-30%, sounds like you were similar. How are you these days? I’m really hoping that this antifungal treatment helps, because before that I was 30-60% and could have some kind of life. I’m not completely bedridden but you know…I sure would like to get some function back! I’ve also decided at last to go and see Dr. Hyde in Ottawa, if he will have me, I’m sending off the app now. To me he is the absolute BEST. I seem to be feeling chatty but I’d best sign off for now, TC Shan, Aylwin xox
