Guest guest
Finding the right medication to work for you is tough enough but dealing with side effects makes it even worse. When I was on an antidepressant, I found that even though a common side effect was drowsiness - for me it kept me up at night so I had to take the pill in the morning instead of the evening. You might want to try it. Maybe it won't make you as loopy then either. You can only hope. Lord knows I wouldn't need any help in the loopy department and I am medication free (well, except for Prometrium, fiber pills, mulit vitamin and a calcium pill). Guess I can't say that I am pill free can I???? I hate taking pills. Remembering to take them is bad enough but to have to swallow the big ones is such a gag! LOL Good luck Judie. I hope you can find something that works for you. Is there anything herbal out there she can take???? le
Guest guest
Hi Judie, I take anti-depressants, pain pills, muscle relaxants when I have to, asthma meds, etc. for my fibromylagia, and assorted odd and end problems. I had a suggestion from the Fibro board, tho, about when I couldn't sleep, and the meds weren't doing the trick. She suggested taking Tylenol PM. I have tried it a few times and it helps. It does make me feel a little dopey in the morning, but not anymore than taking some sinus meds or something that makes you feel a little weird, and it wasn't as bad as the muscle relaxants (I don't like to take those when I am going to be by myself with my kiddos). My sis used to drink some of the Celestial Seasons Sleepy Time tea, and she swore by it. I tried it, but with my pain and all, it didn't really do much for me. Good luck! I know how awful that can be!! Regards, K in Texas

It wouldn't surprise me if your medicine is the culprit. I'd start with calling your doctor and telling him your problem, that you have been taking Nytol regularly but it's not working, and that you don't want another " pill. " He may have further suggestions about your medicine (ex., changing the time of day when you take your pills). It's worth a shot. I don't have any quick fixes. Exercising in the evening helps me to sleep. Also, I have to have at least 45 minutes of quiet to wind down before going to bed. Reading works for me and a cup of nightime tea (no caffeine). I know how yucky that feels not being able to sleep. Good luck. Elena
Guest guest
Kava kava has a sedating effect, but I'd check with the doctor to make sure it wouldn't interact badly with the meds. ;-) F > Finding the right medication to work for you is tough enough but > dealing with side effects makes it even worse. > > When I was on an antidepressant, I found that even though a common > side effect was drowsiness - for me it kept me up at night so I had to > take the pill in the morning instead of the evening. There are other essential oils that are relaxing/calming but Lavender is my favourite. There are other essential oils that are relaxing/calming but Lavender is my favourite. Elemis do a wonderful Aromapure Wild Lavender shower gel, it's not cheap but fills the shower with the aroma and I used it after class (maybe an hour or so before bed) to set me of in the right direction, I'm sure it helped me. You can use drops of essential oils in a bath, but some ones are strong and it would be advisable to check with you doc as they would be absorbed into your system. (Like some shouldn't be used if pregnant) My other personal remedy is my old hynotherapy tapes that were made while I was having hypnotherapy sessions to try to unwind (and ultimately get some sleep) even 18 months later they still work like a dream if I play them when I've gone to bed - that's more expensive but to me it was priceless because I found a good therapist and we worked well together. Camomile tea is supposed to be good before bedtime, but I hate the smell of it! There are others but I can't remember at the moment. Guest guest
" I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for sleep. I've been taking sleep aides like Nytol, every day for quite a while and I know that can't be good for me. The doctor,(shrink), has given me anti-depressants plus mood stabilizilers>(Topamax)which I take at night and even though they make me loopy, they don't make me sleep. I've gone down on my dosage with them per his instructions anyway because I was just too dizzy all the the time. Thanks in advance & sorry to bug you with my insomia!*lol* Judie " Hi, I have a couple of natural ideas. The first one my mom swears by and I have seen some info on it. Take two calcium tablets (with Vitiman D) one hour before bedtime. It won't drug you, its good for you and it may work. My mom was having trouble sleeping and didn't want to get addicted to anything, so when she read it article on this, she tried it. Works on the young and old, men and women. You can also try Valerian Root, which is a herb. I believe you take two before bedtime. Take care, Kathy
Guest guest
Thanks Elena, The nytols work ok I just feel them in the morning then I want caffiene so I dring espresso or pop a vivarin. So I'm kind of just doing upper & downers all the time and I'd like to break the cycle. I think I need to schedule the wind down time. I tend to come home and race around picking up the place and being really manic, mainly because I'm trying to avoid eating. I guess I'm still adjusting to being married and not just that but not being alone. I was just alone for so many years and so isolated I'm still not sure how to act and some nights I feel awkward if I want to go get a bath by myself or go read instead of watching TV. It's almost like I'm all there or I'm totally shut off from him. I guess I'll just have to work on not being so neurotic!*lol* Judie --- etcarroll wrote: > Judie wrote: > > > > Hello Everyone, > > > > I was just wondering if anyone has any tips for sleep. > > I've been taking sleep aides like Nytol, every day for > > quite a while and I know that can't be good for me. > > The doctor,(shrink), has given me anti-depressants plus > > mood stabilizilers>(Topamax)which I take at night and > even > > though they make me loopy, they don't make me sleep. > > I've gone down on my dosage with them per his > instructions > > anyway because I was just too dizzy all the the time. > > I meet with him in 2 months and I can ask him for > something > > to sleep but I think he'll probably give me something > > heavier than Nytol and I don't necessarily think that's > all > > that great an idea either so I thought I could take a > > little poll!*LOL* > > I'm trying to keep my exercise rountine going but it's > been > > a struggle.
