Guest guest
Hi, I'm new to the group. My doctor has diagnosed me with fibro, but hasn't offered any advice. I'm lost. I have such pain in my glands under my jaw and sinus -- among pain in my shoulders, back, etc. I also suffer from depression -- and sometimes I worry that all these aches and pains spread to my brain or something. Other than going to a health spa everyday, and joining a " shout therapy " group if there is such a thing -- I just need HELP trying to figure out what to do -- and I need support doing it! The book referred to below -- " From Fatigue to Fantastic " -- does anyone know if the book is about Fibro -- or Fatigue Syndrome? What's the connection between fatigue and fibro? Guest guest
Barb, Many people who have fibro also have CFS. The book, " From Fatigued to Fantastic " concentrates more on the CFS although the treatment plan is similiar for both FMS and CFS. The author, Dr. Teitelbaum, wrote another book, " Pain Free 1-2-3 " that focuses more on FMS and chronic pain. I recommend both books since CFS and FMS are closely related. Hope this helps..... ~Jill
Guest guest
Barb, ? Welcome to the group! It's almost hard for me to give general fibro advice. So many things work for some people better than others. I've started on the drug Lyrica, which has helped other people on this list, but I feel no difference. For me it's mostly about keeping my body warm. Some exercise helps, but not too much because I have chronic fatigue syndrome and that gets worse with too much exercise. Heavy/binding bedding and clothing is bad. Uhm, I take aleve at night to relax my muscles, get rid of some of the pain to let me sleep. Some anti-depressants are supposed to also help fibro pain because it treats the same source. Your doctor should be able to advise you on possible meds, but sometimes I find that I end up educating the doctors and bringing up treatments to try. This group can help you deal and is a good sounding board when you're considering new treatments because other people have usually tried it already. Have you tried acupuncture? Effects were only temporary for me, but that still really helped. My insurance used to cover it because my doctor wrote me a prescription. It's much more relaxing than it looks, but you have to get somebody really good. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia have many similar symptoms, though people with fibro have more muscle and joint pain and people with cfs have more issues with fatigue and stamina. That's a simple way to look at it because there are other symptoms to both. Many people with cfs (like me) often develop fibro, but not always. I'd really like to know the connection, but then again I'd like to know the cause of cfs to begin with. Alia
