You are really lucky Tricia because not all children show regressions

that quick -Tanner does too. The good thing about this is that if

you switch formula's -you will know within a day or at the most two

if it's better or worse -and so will all the professionals that work

with him. You'll also know right away if it was good to increase the

dosage a bit -or just increase the EPA or DHA which is how

I figured out the higher EPA was even better for Tanner.

Some children don't regress when taken off for a day -or even a week

(which was a nightmare when we did it and I'm sure if you ever did it

too) however most children do regress when taken off at some point

within a few days to a few weeks -just about the time it takes to get

the first surge and for the stores to deplete. The brain is like a

sponge or something even though that have been said to me just for a

point. For those that say they don't see a regression -all that I

knew who had initial changes see a surge when put back on -so it may

have been a gradual regression that was viewed as not progressing

anymore -all children with apraxia will progress to some degree with

or without the right fish oil formula. So no progression at all may

mean there was a subtle regression?

As far as eating fish -yes in theory when our children grow up they

can make sure they eat enough fish a day or week instead. Good luck

getting the right amounts into our kids at 5 -or 2. And then there

is the whole mercury thing with fish that we need to be aware of as

reported by the FDA, etc. (I have reports up on http://www.apraxia.cc

at http://www.shop-in-service.com/new_page_8.htm ) I was told you

have to stick to fish low on the food chain like sardines and

anchovies. Tuna is not included in the FDA warnings, however

Consumer Reports and 20/20 found in their own tests that some tuna

was high in mercury and some was OK -so you won't know unless you

have a lab in your kitchen. And again -some of these other brands of

fish oil people say they use I don't know about to know if they are

pure product -but read this

http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/health/newsid_1911000/1911312.stm if

you are thinking that fish oil capsules are always safe and just give

your child whatever -you have to stick to reputable known fish oil

companies with pure product that state in writing it's products are

tested for purity. Just like the link above talks about companies in

the UK - Michel from Nordic Naturals also told me most of the fish

oil companies tested to have rancid oil. So I will only put links to

the products I know are OK on the http://www.apraxia.cc site under

EFA resources. If you know of another that is good you want me to

add let me know.

And Joya -I don't know why your child's doctor said that fish oil can

cause constipation, it's holistically even used to treat

constipation!! Was this the pediatrician? I have asked some of the

most well known experts in this area -who attended and presented at

the First Apraxia Conference that CHERAB hosted who say this is not

true and they don't know where this question would come from. I even

found this about a baby formula http://www.efriso.com/FAQs/faqs.html

Since you are in NJ like me -send me your doctor's name and I'll ask -

I'm just curious to hear why he or she believes this and what the

reasoning is. My friend who's not a well known fish oil PhD

but a well known internet out of Kimball Medical Center in Brick

( -Ross MD) recommends fish oil to all her patients most

of which are senior citizens and she says we are all " fish deficient "

and studies up on it lots -and still believes she's the one that got

me into fish oil!!)

Anyway -I answered my quota for the day!

Tricia,

I agree with you that EFA has helped my daughter with her bad behaviors and

tantrums as well as her speech. Her whining is so much less now. The other

day she was going down a flight of stairs alternating feet (major change! ) and

she said to me, " Mommy, I'm not sick anymore. I can do it! " So it seems that

she herself knows that something is a bit different about her.

Good luck,

Tammy

[ ] ProEFA - missed day

My son (3 1/2 years old) has been on Pro EFA for about a month. In this time,

he has made some astounding improvements in his speech, use of imagination, and

higher level thinking. Sometimes I think it has helped with regulating his bad

behaviors too. During this time he has also made great improvements in his fine

motor skills and his sensory issues are now very under control. Let it be said

that he gets lots of therapy through the school (OT, ST, PT) and he gets private

OT (once a week) and private ST (twice a week). So I am sure that these

therapies have also contributed to his imrpovements.

My question is, when you parents have forgotten to give your child their daily

dose of ProEFA, have you seen regression? I forgot to give my son his capsule

one morning and he had a horrible day, lots of outbursts. It also seemed like

his speech wasn't as clear. I am unsure if he could regress this quickly with

me forgetting it for one day. What have been your experiences with taking the

child off ProEFA for a period of time? How long does the EFA stay in our system

before it needs to be repelnished?

The other thing that I just don't get is why taking ProEFA would be different

than feeding our kids fish each day in terms of side effects. Is this becuase

there is such a huge concentration of the EFAs in ProEFA? Would eating fish

every day produce the loose stools that some have noted?

Hi everyone. It seems that almost every post is about ProEfa, fish capsules,

oil and supplements. I hope I don't offend anyone, but are any of you

concerned that none of this has been proven effective by the FDA?
