Guest guest
i would like a copy of the complete list and i am willing to pay. is this possible? thank you in advance no matter what you decide its still great info. Gaiacita wrote: I posted this to another non herbal group this morning, and thought the reminder of letting everyone in the family know where the herbs are, and an emergency care sheet idea was something we should all have, so I am copying it here. Many of us are the family herbalist. But what if it is US that need the emergency help? I have my healing herb tinctures in a special place. Normally we use them for minor things-colds, flu, aches, as we have never had an emergency. This past weekend I had a chance to see them shine in an emergency. I tangled the first 3 fingers of my left hand in my table saw. (I'm typing this one handed) I cut one finger half way across the width of the finger, through the middle of the nail, and sliced through the upper tips/nails of the other 2. Blood everywhere. I ran into the bathroom and told my husband to get the DMSO, propolis (raw honey is a good substitute and readily available) and the cayenne tinc, bandages, scissors and tape. He poured the DMSO on, which started to slow the bleeding. Then he put the cayenne in a cup so I could soak my fingers. I started to pass out so he gave me a spoon of cayenne, which snapped me right out of it. Which was good because it was making him sick to look at my hand and he couldn't help me bandage it. (he s squeamish :-). Soaking the fingers in cayenne helped stop the bleeding enough to wrap them. He soaked a strip of gauze in cayenne while I applied some propolis to the fingers, then I wrapped each finger in the cayenne gauze and taped them. Then I laid down for 3 or 4 hours, and after that was able to get up and finish my project, though it took longer as I could only use one hand. The ER would have done basically the same thing but 1) would have charged me a lot 2) would have given me a shot and 3) put me on a round of antibiotics. The natural antibiotics in what I applied were stronger than anything they could have given me and I had zero worries of infection, plus did not upset the balance if flora in my gut as theirs would have. One lesson I learned from this is to make sure all my herbs are clearly labeled and in a place where everyone in the family knows they are at. I am the herbalist in our house and my husband knows almost nothing about them. If I had not been able to tell him where they were and what to get me, he would have been lost. So now I am going to make up a laminated paper with herbal instructions for certain emergencies and put it along with the appropriate ingredients on one shelf and make sure that everyone knows to go to this spot if I am not home or can't tell them. Guest guest
Oh shoot. I forgot to send my paper to this list! It is in word 2000 format. Can I send it as an attachment to the whole list, or put it in the file section--moderators? As soon as I am told how to pass it on I will. Along with a list of herbalists that I trust. I make most of my own tinctures but for the ones that I don't have the ingredients for, or just don't want to make, I buy from these people. Like, I don't make any salves--I buy them all. These people make products stronger than you will be able to buy in any store. -------Original Message------- i would like a copy of the complete list and i am willing to pay. is this possible? thank you in advance no matter what you decide its still great info. Guest guest
Word 2000 should work for just about anybody I think whether as attachment or inserted copy/paste. Try it & if there's a lone person it doesn't .. save it in a different format if possible. For those struggling with costly software problems, I have wonderful luck with Open Office full suite ... free and it will do all Office 2003 & apparently 07 from what I hear. I do a lot of my work in it, then save it from there in pdf form so it can't " shift " as with legal captions, and formatting etc. which often don't travel well!! It will save or export to just about anything. My Microsoft Office 2003 will not save to pdf whereas it does. My only problem is when I'm sending to someone who can only open " doc " extension, I can save it in that, but often I have to convert from my Open Office I've been working & saving in if I, for instance, want to send it on to someone and it is in open office format, they may or may not be able to handle it so I convert it or save it in the doc form. Just go to the url: http://www.openoffice.org/ to download part or all of the whole suite of features. Joyce There is ALWAYS a " BETTER WAY " ! Together WE can find IT and make IT a " Cradle for Humanity " ! Re: Emergency use Oh shoot. I forgot to send my paper to this list! It is in word 2000 format. Honestly, I hardly ever have any real formatting problems between the two. > My Microsoft Office 2003 will not save to pdf whereas it does. Yes, I like its built-in PDF export (and Flash) capability - but if you're on windows, there's always the excellent PDFCreator, which installs a vurtual PDF-Print driver, so, anything you can print, you can create a PDF of, whether it is in OOo, Microsoft Office, a web page, or whatever... http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/ > My only problem is when I'm sending to someone who > can only open " doc " extension, I can save it in that, but often I have > to convert from my Open Office I've been working & saving in if I, for > instance, want to send it on to someone and it is in open office format, > they may or may not be able to handle it so I convert it or save it in > the doc form. Another option is to just set the default file format for Writer (text), Calc (spreadsheet) and Impress (presentation) documents to the Microsoft versions (.doc, .xls and .ppt). I don't do that or recommend it, but if you are constantly having to do 'Save As', then that may be a reasonable option for you. Otherwise, if it is only a select few documents that you are always converting - just save them ONCE in Microsoft format, then keep your originals in that format - that way you no longer have to convert before sending. > Just go to the url: http://www.openoffice.org/ to download part or > all of the whole suite of features. I agree - why pay hundreds of dollars for something that you can get for free?
Guest guest
As long as we are on the topic perhaps all list members could write in and share their favorite first aid remedies. I will formulate my list and and it in as well. This is a very useful list and quite timely in my sense of things. A lot of the planet seems to be in crisis at this time with the geopathic stress evidenced by the earth quake on the New Madrid Fault and the new volcano erupting in Hawaii. I have seen many individuals and families go into sudden crises this past week. Is theree something in the water? <grin> Garnet Gaiacita wrote: > Ok, here it is. Guest guest
I will say that making your own simple tinctures is easy. I would suggest that everyone have at least hot pepper tincture on hand. You can go to your local grocery store or Mexican market and buy a few pounds of habanerro peppers. These are the hottest you can buy. Then buy a bottle of the cheapest American vodka you can buy. By law all American vodka has to be both tasteless and odorless. Therefore they are all the same. Throw your hot peppers in the blender, cover with vodka and blend until everything is just slush. Pour in a bit more vodka and blend again. Pour this into some quart bottles and top with more vodka so that the slush is covered by 1 inch of liquid. Label the bottles hot pepper tincture and the date. There, now you have something that can stop heart attacks and strokes, stop bleeding, disinfect wounds, help get rid of cataracts, increase circulation and spice up your chili. :-) a good thing to have on hand and a tincture I make by the gallon because I won't be without. If, for some reason you can't get habanerros just get the hottest peppers you can. You can also mix the types of peppers you use. Most herbals will say to leave this tinc sit for at least 2 weeks. I never strain any of my tincs for at least 3 months. Normally I don't strain until I actually need them, only straining the amount I need, even though it may be a year or more--it just keeps getting stronger. And then, in an emergency, the top liquid is always clear anyway, the herbs having settled to the bottom. -------Original Message------- As long as we are on the topic perhaps all list members could write in and share their favorite first aid remedies. I will formulate my list and and it in as well.
Guest guest
I have heard that Catnip Oil is very effective when put into a lotion at repeling mosquitoes and flies. Probably does not repel ticks. What does repel them from you is to put garden dusting sulfur on the cuffs of your pants, socks and shoes. I do not know if you can put it on a dog or cats feet for a brief walk in the woods but it is an idea that you could look into. Ticks are not an insect, they are a arthropod, like red spider mites and other types of mites they are hard to kill and repel. We do not have ticks in central Texas any longer because the fire ants eat them. I do know that ducks and chickens will eat them. Indian Runner Ducks will eat them and they are a non-flighted breed of duck that only needs a small kiddie pool of water to bathe in. Watching patiently but it has moved and seems smaller. Will let you know but appreciate any other suggestions. Why would you take dmso internally? Guest guest
There are many therapeutic benefits I have experienced from oral DMSO. It is faster acting than topical and for some conditions such as head or whole body trauma that I often treat in my cats and dogs it is the best route to administer. I have taken it with CS orally and kicked the flu I had. I have also experienced a lot of relief from arthritis stiffness and body soreness from over exertion. It is also a superb antioxidant, among other effects. You might try an archive search on the list home page. Also buy DMSO Nature's Healer by Dr Morton . Guest guest
But Garnet what you make of the suggestion of 1 teaspoon of DMSO with 3/4th ounce OJ every 15 minutes for Heart Attack, Stroke, please? I don't remember her saying how long one should continue that dosage but I'm concerned that we validate that this is not too much, too soon because I think I remember Morton saying 1 teaspoon per day, and that each teaspoon is gone in five days. Am I wrong in thinking that on the 6th day of Morton's dosage and thereafter, we'd still have 5 teaspoons per day working in us? I just don't know yet how much is too much; don't want us to hurt ourselves. Obie. Guest guest
I believe the protocol calls for dosing q 15minutes for an hour or so then dropping down to every 30 min then every hour in a descending schedule but please do your own checking because I am working from memory only and have not looked into the schedule closely. However I would not hesitate personally to take it every 15 minutes for several hours, and every few hours for days if I felt the urge. This is just me. Much higher IV doses have been used with absolutely no harm to my knowledge. To attempt to establish and LD50 in the FDA required toxicology studies for DMSO when it was a new drug in development seeking FDA approval the investigators had to go to ten thousand times the therapeutic dose to make 50% of the animals die. That is an amazing margin of safety. DMSO is metabolized in an hour, it does not bioaccumulate to my knowledge. Many take oral DMSO every day for years. How much varies but a good starting point that I chose was about 5 ccs or a teaspoon. Dosing to effect is essentially what I do and what many practitioiners do when calibrating the effective dose. Since drug metabolism differs in each individual that is what most practitioners end up doing, or they over dose in a shot gun fashion to save time and money constantly reevaluating. Also please search out info on IV dosing and how DMSO is used. Remember that during oral dosing a pass through the liver will inacivated much of that dose while delievery by IV, topical or enema will avoid this first pass and more will go to the systemic circulation before the liver gets a shot at it. Guest guest
>Why would you take dmso internally?< To stop a stroke or various other deadly things. In which case it may be that the best defense is a good offense, so take a little regularly. To De-Calcify. To Detox. I'm doing it for all the above. I'm just taking one teaspoon once a week. It's working pretty good to keep me at a comfortable level of detox. I'm taking a lot of kelp lately. Many species are known to contain arsenic. The source I'm taking* appears to either have no arsenic or so little that it can't be accurately measured. Nevertheless, sulfur and sulfur compounds are known to take arsenic out of the body. I figure DMSO is good insurance. I already know that the detox effects are considerably stronger than MSM. Guest guest
I mixed it with Orange Juice. I have in an emergency used Coke but would not recommend this just because of the cr*p that might be in a Coke. I always take it on an empty stomach after one time taking it with food in my stomach. It made me feel slightly nauseaous. I have also read that one should take it on an empty stomach.
