Guest guest
Well, my husband and I went to meet with the girl's school speech therapist and another school rep to have the speech portion of their IEP. The therapist has been evaluating the girls. Well, the school rep wasn't there so we didn't have the IEP. In the meantime, the therapist said we could have had this IEP in March, but I didn't schedule it. We had the rest of the IEP in April, and I asked why wasn't she a part of that one. No one told her about it. In April, the school said we would have it later. My husband and I had a chance to talk over her evaluation. My husband was really irritated because she said that doesn't qualify under language. She does under articulation. cannot say many two syllable words. She really breaks down at 3 syllable words. She can't say the days of the week without lots of prompting. It is not spontaneous at all. She can only say the 1 syllable months. She can't say her address. She can't say her real name, , without prompting. She can't say the speech therapist's name. Well, come to find out, she never tested to see if they had apraxia. She says she would have been doing therapy differently if she would have known. What a waste of time these past 4 months have been!!!! In the mean time, is regressing!!!!! I think we need to ask for an independent evaluation, but I'm not sure what else we should do. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Suzi

Guest guest
I've already found a few websites about writing the independent evaluation. I've talked to our private speech therapist who is on maternity leave also. We've already learned not to sign anything until we are sure it is what we want. I just want to find out what kind of evaluations should be done to show her apraxia. Thank you! Guest guest
Dear Suzi, 1. What two language tests did the SLS utilize to make her decision that the child does not qualify for language services? 2. What is the educational impact of the child's speech/language breakdowns in the area of communication in the classroom setting? 3. You can ask for an independent evaluation, if you believe that the current evaluation does not give an accurate picture of your child's speech and language ability levels.
