Guest guest
I remember the vaddha Sandhu - there were lots of stories we had heard about him - one of them being that he had a " firang " girlfriend who stayed in the Dharamshala - don't know how true that was ! Prabha '84 Subject: The Tale of Two Sandhus To: mgims Date: Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 12:19 PM When people talk about 1979 Batch, the two Sandhus that we had immediately come to mind. They both were likeable persons. In fact, they believed in living life as was the philosophy propagated by our batch in general. However, the similarity ended there. They were different from each other in almost every other respect. One was tall and handsome; the other short. Hence they were known as the 'vaddha' Sandhu and the 'chotta' Sandhu, respectively. They both were the source of endless humour for us. Once the 'vaddha' Sandhu used a percussion hammer to start his bike for a month because he had lost the ignition key. He found the key later: it was under his pillow. The 'chotta' Sandhu was deadly with his satire. It was pure fun whenever they entered into a one-to-one discussion. The whole batch loved them. Unfortunately, the 'vaddha' Sandhu died in an accident in 1990. The other one is alive and well! I am sure his sense of humour will still be intact. Guest guest
The fact that Vaddha Sandhu did not find the key under his pillow for over a month indicates that he slept elsewhere for a month. That might just lend credence to the Firang in Dharamshala story. What say Bharat? Guest guest
Ha ha! I do remember Dr Sandhu (the tall one). He was very jovial. There were a couple of times when he mediated between two warring members in my batch :-) Ravin '82 > Hmm! Guest guest
I remember seeing him around - he seemed a friendly sort. Prabha '84 Subject: RE: The Tale of Two Sandhus To: mgims Date: Wednesday, December 31, 2008, 4:10 AM The Late Dr Sandhu was friends with Diwan????? Vaddha Dr Sandhu used to take our evening clinics in surgery. He was the approachable one. My memories are his teaching us hydrocele examination. No gloves...... kneading the hydrocele whilst taking us thru the signs, symptoms, management etc etc. Very nice person. Guest guest
Yes Ravin, that is a potent combination. A Sardar who caresses male private parts with his naked hands and also has a Firang tucked in at the Dharamshala. What do you call him? Guest guest
I really don't know as to how long the firang did stay in the Dharamshala after all-----But,she did reach his home-town and was reputed to smoke bidis in front of the grandmother of our Sandhu.... Whatever, I still remember the uncanny precision with which the Bada Sandhu aimed fireworks(Rockets) at some specific windows of the ladies hostel from the terrace of 'A' block {the burns on his hands not-with-standing... Guest guest
Shyam The phenomenon of state-dependant memory is well known....if you obtain information in a particular frame of mind (in this case, inebriated) you are more likely to remember that info when you are in a similar state. On the other hand, in India its not what you know but who you know that matters. And alcohol certainly helps with networking. Maybe Badaa Sandhu inadvertantly hit upon the right formula for doing well in exams....and have a good time in the bargain as well:) Regards Amulya'82 shyamkamath wrote: Brought back..some memories..of those days..when Badaa Sandhu..and..Sudarshan Tomar..were the 2 PGs..of Surgery, dept.,of '79 batch ...
