Guest guest
I saw that a few children have CP and apraxia. I am wondering if there is a relationship between prematurity and apraxia. I ask because was a 33 week preemie (going only by an ultrasound at 10 weeks that measured her growth..I thought she was older but that is a different story). She has microcephaly and many other " smaller " dxs but as far as bone studies, CAT, MRI, FISH, urine testing, more bloodwork, and most recently a swallow study she appears to have no problems. But, she is delayed in all areas of development (way more than a " normal " preemie). She just started walking week before last (THANK GOD)! Her fine motor skills are getting better, hampered by her fingers that are contacted and she has a hard time rotating her wrists up and down. But then she needed glasses and just got them about a month or so ago after I finally found a doctor that listened to me (she could not see up close and had double vision)!! Her reflexes are " brisk " and the neuro always stood by and said she had CP and poo poos apraxia. He's like well if she has CP then she is at risk for apraxic like symptoms. Well, back to her speech stuff. She never said anything...the " serious " baby until she was well over 11 months old. She never smiled either until 18-19 months and it is more of a horizontal smile but a cute one nonetheless! She says sounds now. Like if you say fish, she says shhhh. Or good girl she say g g g. But every once in a while she says the words sort of clear but can never repeat it. She really won't say words " on command " . In fact when she says things it is when no one is really watching or listening and then we all go did you hear that?? She just started this babbling thing ..blah blah ggg etc. ..when she walks so I am encouraged. It is almost like she talks with her tongue flat. But you know what is weird, when you get out bubbles she purses her lips and blows but cannot do whistles or blow actual bubbles. Selective muscle control?? We had a swallow study done last week, she still is not eating lumpy foods...still on baby food and pedisure...but swallows normally. In fact, they saw no reflux either..that's good. But she pockets her food in her mouth by her cheeks and teeth. She does not really chew. She does have sensory issues. She started wiping her mouth a few months ago with her arm but she cannot lick her lips yet she can stick her tongue out when she plays. (She hates to eat....food is definitely not a motivator, even candy) I am just at a loss at what is happening to her. She can't seem to do patty cake or those word songs with her body and she does not point to what she wants or attempt to do sign. At least she will shake her head yes or no and she does seem to understand what you say or sign to her. She gets so frustrated. She will just look at you if you ask to to bring something to you or point to her body parts but she has come over to me and touched mine..ex:where is your nose and she touches mine. Okay, there was a point to this but I have lost my train of thought between , Snoopy (the beagle) and my hubby showing me the GI Joe that he found for his collection.. LOL! It was much longer than I intended, but basically is there even a correlation between prematurity and apraxia or could it be possible that she has mild CP (my son born at 32 weeks has mild CP and he has totally different issues) and apraxia? Not that it matters really, but I am just curious about other children. Seriously needing my second cup of coffee, PS. has been getting PT, OT, and Speech once a week since she was 8 months old. She has seen all of the specialists and now is on a see every 6 months basis for them.

Guest guest
, may i ask you how these things were resolved? I'm especially interested in the ROP. Maybe I'm missing what you mean by resolved. Have they resolved because of proEFA or just development? How long have you been on the proEFA? Guest guest
Hi Lynn, By resolved I do mean that they are gone!!!! ROP well both my guys outgrew any problems that they may have had there....we are far-sighted though....everything else they had that is resolved they outgrew......Non of the things in my signature are related to the ProEfa....but we have been taking it for about 6 weeks now and have seen wonderful changes !!! The boys have started to slowly babble, to take us where they want us to go...they take our hand....we have beginning stages of pointing....they make clear choices, they are riding toy cars, they are starting to pretend play with dolls.....they are noweating at a table and chairs...when they are hungry or thirsty they take me to the table and they sit down...no more boosters with straps!!! Aidans coordination has greatly improved...he falls less often , they are starting to eat with forks!!! Yeah!!! There have been so many changes....small ones that I cannot even name them all....we are definately believers!!!! If you have any more questions...please email me again! Guest guest
Traci.... Oooops! is 21 months almost 22 months old now. Guest guest
Wonderful! That is so exciting! We are seeing absolutely amazing things here. I will try to do an update on our first week on EFA's tomorrow. Austin has been doing amazing things. He has said more words the last few days than he has in months. He's excited. The biggest thing I'm seeing is that he's *with us* now. It's like he's been locked away in his head and now he is here with us! I promise more information later. Lynn Re: [ ] apraxia and prematurity and/or CP Hi Lynn, ProEfa....but we have been taking it for about 6 weeks now and have seen wonderful changes !!!
