Guest guest
Sillybear, no, I would not consider apraxia a pervasive developmental disorder because that is a diagnostic term they use for the Autism Spectrum Disorder. However, GLOBAL developmental disorder (which to me sounds pretty much the same) is a more general, non-specific term that they used with my son before they knew what to call what he had ...they now call what he has " global dyspraxia " ......there are many many names for this: limb apraxia, clumsy child syndrome, etc. along with all the other names like verbal apraxia and oral apraxia that go along with this whole general topic and......of course there has already been much discussion about possible crossovers and/or misdiagnoses between the motor control issues of apraxia and the autism spetrum disorders. This answer probably hasn't helped much.....like many many others have said: it isn't the name that is so important as it is the TREATMENT that can help our children grow, learn and be as happy as possible.....whatever name leads us to that treatment, take it!!
