Guest guest
- I appreciate your advice. The last fatty acid test we did was over a year and a half ago. And, yes, we did discuss the results with both Dr. Kane and our doctor ( a colleague of Dr. Kane) several times. In the meantime, we happened to do a 24 hour EEG, when we discovered my son was basically " seizing his brains out " and had been for at two years, according to Dr. Chez (our neurologist that we travel from the New York city area to Chicago to see every three months). And it was these seizures that seemed to cause the loss of both expressive and receptive language that my son experienced (in a rare form of childhood epilepsy known commonly as the " Landau Kleffner " syndrome. We corrected the EEG with medication and my son was a new person, with lots of language (it took about a year to gain it all back) Thus, the supplements that were recommended by Dr. Kane, and that we gave my son for almost two years, did nothing to improve significantly my son's serious(subclinical and noctornal) seizure disorder. So that, whatever imbalances in the fatty acid profile there were, and probably still are, do not seem to be effecting my son's condition. Thus, in our case the problem was not the lack of communication with Dr. Kane. Rather, it was that there was another significant medical problem that was not corrected by nutritional supplements, however helpful they might be for some children. I hope this clarifies my advice to be cautious with respect to the infallibility of fatty acid testing. - Winston (Mom to Tommy)
