Guest guest
My daughter does the same thing. (2yrs old )She wakes up crying hysterically during the night. I go in her room and she arches back crying and moaning. I have to keep calling her name over and over and tapping her face for her to finally stop and realize that I am holding her. I just assumed that she was having a nightmare. After she 'wakes' up she is fine just a little dazed. She then goes back to sleep.
Guest guest
Hi I'm not sure if this will help but my son Liam who is now 3 years old and has verbal apraxia use to do the same thing. He would wake up in the night, screaming and seem to have severe pain. He did it for quite a while I remember he started not long after he was born. He did eventually stop with no known cause. At the time I use to try to correlate it with the food he ate or I ate but could find nothing. To this day I still do not know what caused it. He does now sleep fine through the night with out difficulty. Remember EFA's can take longer to work in some children than others. It can take up to three months in some children so dont give up hope!! It took liam longer than most kids to really kick in and now a year later, he has gone from non verbal - to speaking so everyone can understand him! Guest guest
Lori, I find your comments of interest and have always looked for common links between children that have speech difficulty. My husband and I noticed that when our son was 2 days old that he would do this twitching thing that involved different parts of his body. More so than not, it would involved an arm. We kept watching and worrying about him and the nurse at our doctor's office was able to observe one of these episodes at a one week follow-up and supported our observation to the doctor. From there we went to a Pediatric Neurologist that diagnosed our son with Benign Nocturnal Sleep Myoclonus. The EEG did not show any disruption in his brain activity during a " benign seizure " so we were told that as long as his breathing was not effected that we should not worry about it and our son would outgrow it. He did outgrow it before his first birthday, but I always wondered what these seizures were doing to him. He stills " startles " all during the night like you described your son. During my pregnancy I mentioned to my doctor that my babies movements, at times, didn't seem right as they felt " jerky. " If I had not been pregnant before I wouldn't have known what " normal " movement felt like. This did not seem right to me even though the Dr. dismissed it. Once my son was born and I saw him having the " jerky " movements I knew that that was what I had been feeling. My son is now 3.8 years and has made great progress with his 3x week therapy. I feel like we still have a long road ahead of us, but he has come so far. Both his therapist just rave about his progress. I hope that you find some of this information helpful.
