Guest guest
Can I inquire about Olive Oil and Pam fat-free canola cooking spray? That's all I use to cook with. I don't even buy butter anymore, haven't for about 6 months. I was always curious about this new product Benecol Spread. [Most cheap olive oils and almost all " canola " oils are high temperature, well-refined oils. If you want any quality oils, read the labels to ascertain if they are raw, first cold pressed, virgin oils, with no other refinement than filtering. Remember that the higher the temperature and the longer the cooking period, the more the oils are broken down into less desirable compounds. Some research has suggested that high temperature frying and barbequing produces carcinogenic compounds from oils and fats. The best butter substitute I have come across is " Earth Balance " (it contains palm oils, but the concerns about saturated fars in them appear to be exaggerated). Anyway, there is no definite proof that small amounts of fresh butter are harmful - as we have seen, most margarines are less " healthy " than butter. If you wish us to comment on Benecol, do send us a list of the ingredients and its method of manufacture.
