Guest guest
Hi Jill, I am not in California but I had to reply! First and foremost you do want to get your own evaluation. This cordinator telling you that they are the most qualified to diagnos your daughter is wrong, they are not Experts. Yes they have a speech therapist for the school district, but that does not gaurantee that the Therapist knows anything about Apraxia and or how to work with your child Secondly her need is based on her diagnosis, based on how severe her diagnosis is. Thirdly once you have a diagnosis then you call every speech therapist you can and ask what they might recommend for number and length of visits weekly. Fourth you get every bit of information about the treatment of apraxia that you can find online showing that she needs intensive therapy and print it out and take it with. Most important of all is don't let these people intimidate you. You are the parent and hold alot of power within the IEP process. They expect you to come in knowing nothing and that they can tell you what is best for YOUR child. Be prepared. Knowledge is the best tool you have at your disposal. Sorry for carrying on so long but these people tend to irritate me... Hope this helps Crystal Mom to kyle 6.2 Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Oral Dyspraxia > How much individual speech therapy will my daughter realistically get > from the school district when she turns 3?
