Guest guest
Well!! It certainly makes me feel a little less lonely to hear about other people getting all these absurd comments from people on the IEP team .....the team that is supposed to be planning an appropriate education for your INDIVIDUAL child! I have been feeling so down about working with our public school in regards to my son's education. We have been working with this school for three school years now. The case manager only speaks to me if she wants to schedule a meeting or have me sign a paper....except in the hall the other day she asked me if Micah got the tubes put in his ears okay!!!!!!!!! (he had a serious and unusual middle ear surgery in which he was under anesthesia for two hours and had to be admitted afterwards for overnight because they couldn't stop his vomiting!) And THIS is the woman who is supposed to MANAGING his education for the next 12 years????????? I could go ON AND ON with stories of the absolutely INANE comments made by people on the team which illustrate their fundamental LACK of understanding on how to help my child learn while not damaging his self-esteem or curiousity! Suffice it to say that hearing what the person at the school told Jil and comments made to has me at least feeling that I am not the only one experiencing that assault on my confidence of being a " good parent " .....honestly I feel constantly demeaned....either I am " overprotective " if I want more information or I " should put him to bed earlier so he isn't so fatigued " or just " make him tow the line " but of course " he is not a severe case, you know, and doesn't warrant this much therapy! " HELP US HELP US HELP US! I better quit now and calm down or it will be anothe sleepless night for me! I can hardly wait until the boys are out of school for the summer and .......anyway, good night, Carol (mother of two, and glad to be!)
