Guest guest
Donna, there are many government funded programs for first time homebuyers....we bought a house through our state housing authority for low-income first time homebuyers.....we got a lower than market interest rate but had to jump through a lot of hoops (more than typical) and there are lots of " special rules " attached like you lose money if sell under so many years and you are not allowed to finish off the basement and rent it out and not allowed to have your own business in the house (like child care), etc. The program was a great blessing to us as we lived in one of the two highest cost of living places in the U.S. continental. I would suggest finding out about your various options in your area by calling a local bank or credit union and asking about their special programs, calling your community action programs, your state housing authority, your veterans administration, your local food pantry or church organization, your vocational rehabilitation agency, etc. The one place I have heard of doing work specifically for handicap accessibility is Habitat for Humanity.....other than that a local organization that will come in and change a house you have already. Best wishes in your search! Carol
