Guest guest
Thank you everyone that responded to my posts. I've come down sick with a bad cold (caught it from the kids) and have been unable to respond to everyone just yet. I took to the pediatrician yesterday as I thought she had an ear infection as she's been waking up at night this week crying. Well, she's fine (who knows why she has been crying) as she has no ear infection, but the doctor told me to expect a letter from my insurance denying our request for a referral for a speech evaluation (she used the codes I gave her too). Our insurance (Healthnet) doesn't cover speech or other chronic conditions despite the cause. So, we will have to pay out of pocket for an evaluation (and any additional therapy that we can't get from the school district when turns 3). At least our EI has allowed us to get some OT starting next month. I am not looking forward to our IEP this fall. I just hope we can get some decent individual speech therapy for through them, but it doesn't look good. I'll need to look into some creative ways to find affordable private therapy. The sad thing is that this process shouldn't be this difficult. Us parents already have enough stress, that EI and the school districts should be trying to make things easier for us. They shouldn't be adding to the stress we already face. By doing so, they are not helping these children. In the long run, it will cost them more money as they will need to supply special education longer than may have been necessary if they would have given adequate services in these early years.
