Guest guest
Hi a, Firstly the chances are that your child will have had the injection with no side effect at all .There are cases , recrded by parents of deterioration after the booster jab . But these are much less common than parents reporting and adverse reaction after the first !! Your child immune system is more grown up and less likely to struggle with this viral load than at 18 months. Symptoms of a reaction ( autistic like symptoms ) are extremeley difficult to pin down as you can have a room full of autistic children all of whom behave COMPLETELY differently and yet all of whom would be on the autistic spectrum. Having had it happen to me I would look for lessening eye contact any reduction in /or change to , speech any sign of repetetive behviour ( needing to sit in the same seat , needing to line things up at certain angles etc) Any increase in tantrums or unreasonable behaviour Sudden ability to be able to " concentrate " on a puzzle or a game for long periods of time holding hands over the ears , toe-walking. The thing is that a lot of these behaviours ( especially the tantrums LOL) will be seen every now and again in your average four year old so you must not over re-act if your child does something new that fits with this criteria. You are looking for a change in typical patterns of behaviour and you should only worry if your son suddenly insists on lining all his cars up every morning before breakfast etc. The last thing I will say is that the thing I wish I had known back then about HOW the MMR causes problems- and its link to diet . If your child suddenly starts reducing his diet down to just wheat and milk based products ( other than sweets ) or if you find yourself using these particular foods to pacify ( a child of 4 should not need milk to get to sleep ) then you should look at introducing a gfcf diet. To be honest the Western world has relied increasingly on these substances for the last twenty years and we are now more overweight and allergy prone than in our entire history - so cutting down on these foods will not do your little one any harm at all ( when I joined my son on a gfcf diet the first thing that happened to me was that I lost one and a half stone ). Anyway most parents I know feel that their child deteriorated over about 6 months ( Charlie was unusually quick !) but remember - the very strong chance is that your little one WILL BE FINE !! If this could be, what symtoms should I be aware of and what time frame as this has me very worried.
